lhamilton1807’s Super Game Prep fitness log

Oregon Super Game is just over 2 months away, and I turn 40 between now and the game. I asked my son to help with getting me in shape, since he wants to go to super game as well.

I’ll report my progress each Friday (hopefully).

    Friday, Feb 18, 2022
    Weight: 178 lbs
3/4 mile jog, with two 100m sprints
    3 reps of 3 pull-ups
    4 reps of 20 situps
    4 reps of 15 push-ups

My wallet will lose a lot of weight when I pay for entry & paint 😬

Forgot to post on Friday! It was crazy how long that small workout made me feel old and creaky. Only worked out twice this week to allow myself a slow ramp-up.

Tuesday, Feb 22, 2022 (happy Twosday!)
        1 mile jog
        3 reps of 3 pull-ups
        4 reps of 20 situps
        4 reps of 15 push-ups

        Friday, Feb 25, 2022
        Weight: 180 lbs
        1 1/4 mile jog
        3 reps of 3 pull-ups
        4 reps of 20 situps
        4 reps of 15 push-ups

I’m not as sore after each workout now, so I think I can start in earnest now. Whats funny is that for all workout items - running and strength - I’m outdoing my 15 year-old son. While it’s funny in a way, I think the workout might be more for his benefit than mine… but it’s something to bond over, and I won’t laugh at him. I’m sure he’ll pass me up soon 😆

For anyone interested, I’ve attached a zip file with the workout schedule in Excel format. I’ll start week 1 on Monday. It’s a Navy SEAL preparation workout I did in college and started again two summers ago, but I stopped when the wildfires made anything strenuous dangerous because of the smoke in the air. Haven’t worked out since 😬

Dang, I haven’t posted in way too long.

been working out off & on. Been hard to schedule time with my son - he’s been struggling with keeping on top of his schoolwork. I’ve gone back & forth between just working out for myself regardless of whether he joins me or making sure it’s something we do together. Never an easy balance. But this last week we got back into it solidly on Mon, Wed, and Fri.

2 mile jog with a sprint finish
          3 sets of 4 pull-ups
          4 sets of 30 sit-ups
          4 sets of 20 push-ups

feeling good even though I’m officially over the hill now.

I remember years back. I did a similar regiment. I was going to be general for a local big game, and I had the option of being a UAV as part of the game. UAVs could run and go anywhere to figure the fight out, and even call people out. But if you didn't get back to your base within an allotted time window, you crashed and died. Giving up a lot of points.

Long story short, I wanted to be able to run up hill for that whole time frame lol. It worked, and I had so much confidence in that game I think it was won before we got on the field. I feel bad for my ref who had to keep up with me. I quit the regiment the following Monday.

Now. I say that because I want to advise you set a secondary goal now. Otherwise your likelihood of falling off of your new regiment is more likely after game day. In my expierence setting a goal event only gets you to game day mentally. Then it all comes apart. If you have a second long term goal set, you will kill it at super game, and build on that fitness level which only makes paintball more fun.

Very good advice, and I’ll look for the next goal. I don’t want to just drop the workout and go with the downhill slide.

            MWF workout
            4 sets of 4 pullups
            4 sets of 30 situps
            4 sets of 25 pushups
just a few minutes between reps this time to get a good burn

didn’t run Monday - local weather has been drunk this last week. Wednesday I ran 3 miles and today I ran 2. Times are getting shorter.

Gotta figure out a diet change tho - fewer carbs and more veggies. Weighed in at 192. For a 5’10” guy, that’s too much.

I am in my mid forties, and have been on go fast special teams most of my life. Working out now is more about not injuring myself, while still being able to keep up with the team.
I switched to keto about six years ago, honestly I couldn't do what I do without that.
I would be happy to answer any questions you have about what works for me. PM or in the open in case anybody else is interested

Good on ya for staying fit into mid-life. I know my body does well with a vegetarian diet, it just has to include more raw greens and less salt, fat, and carbs. Easy enough to do, it just takes self control and preparation 😉

                    Congrats on the weight loss!

My son and I are in blue and will only be there Sunday. Which team did you sign up for?

Awesome! I'm also getting my fitness up for paintball reasons

Suggestion Tip, incorporate your playstyle into your workout.
Squats, side planks transitioning between each left and right, up down transitions. This is entirely to prevent injury and reflect all the squatting and leaning, twisting, quick transitions that people do when playing behind a bunker wall.

Also, I find it more positive to take a weight at the start of the training, and only at the end, as I think it is more a reflection of progress than a measurement you need to obsess over. How you feel and look is more important than the number.

                    Good advice, thanks.

Regarding weight, I don’t intend to “end” working out, but rather continue after SuperGame. Otherwise it wouldn’t really be worth working out for weeks just for one weekend. Taking a weight measurement is another way for me to see whether I’m in the right track. I know what a healthy weight is for me, and 192 isn’t it. So I’m aiming to lose some chub.

                  Last week:
                  Monday
                  2x8 pull-ups, 2x6 pullups
                  6x25 situps
                  6x25 pushups
                  3 mile run

                  Wednesday
                  4x6 pullups
                  6x25 situps
                  6x25 pushups
                  3 mile run

Friday was a crazy busy day at the end of a very stressful work week and got in no exercise. But I went on a 9-mile walk on Saturday morning. Very therapeutic.

Saturday I weighed in at 187, so I’m slowly losing weight. Feeling good, too. Today (Sunday) the weather was fantastic and I spent all day out in the yard & garden building up that Vitamin D I’ve been missing through the PNW winter.

This is post supergame but I spent three months before supergame working out for two hours a night 5x a week.
I started off dying running a mile and out of shape after a three year break for powerlifting. Now I set a PR of 6.5 miles for my longest run, I'm running 2-4 miles a night and on my way to bench 225 for the first time (gave up close to it 3 years ago as college was hectic). After supergame was over I still felt like I could've played another day if I wanted so I definitely got the results I wanted in the short term.
