    Fitness as we age

Was walking 4 miles a day on top of stretching and weight strengthing. Both hips need work and cortisone shots kinda helping. Just wondering how other folks get past the pain. Im 68 and just trying to survive for a while.

The food must be fixed before any fitness should be discussed. One might believe that hard work shall overcome poor decisions.

Agreed. Exercise is all well and good, but if you aren't fueling your body correctly your results will always be sub par.

Not quite there yet, but my Dad swore by lots of gym work (low impact), minimal sugar, and fish oil every day - both mostly to calm the joints. He maintained that through his 70s.

The main thing for me is sugar which is hell on my joints. I don't touch soda, including diet (cancerous shite) - and rarely touch alcohol.

Another big thing at least in my family has always been bowel cancer. For me that means zero processed meats including ham or bacon, more leaning towards fish and beef a couple of times a week. Otherwise vego. Don't get me wrong I too enjoy watching life drain from the eyes of a bull stag as I chokehold it to the next plane of existence, but it's not my daily.

Third big thing, and the one I'm fairly sure will get me in the end, is heart stuff. Trying to avoid salt where possible. Salt is one of those flavors you adjust to. If you cut it for a while, you can barely eat most packaged snacks because they're so salty. Helps.

While I'm not old, I'm almost 40 & I'm seeing/feeling stuff change with my body. I've gained 30lbs in the past year or so & my endurance is way down. I need to fix that.

Three things I've done in the past that have helped get my butt back into shape was drink more water, cut the sugar, and calisthenics. I feel like those three things can work well at any age.

            Less negative outweighs more positive.

            Less stress, food, Netflix.

            Winning, optimizing, efficiency cause stress.

No trinket can provide the necessary information to allow one to perceive they deserve to eat poorly.(ie. Apple Watch incorrectly calculating calories burned thus creating the false sense of being able to eat “insert item that said person has never thought was the reason for their issues”)

If you are bored, then you have no problems.

The happiness that Netflix brings for 2 hours will not erase the regret for the remaining 22 hours left. 2 more hours of sleep may make the next 24 hours more productive.
