I'm REALLY enjoying this free little indie fan fic. It's very loosely based on the old PC game "System Shock". Basically, the game has a decent premise, but almost no real story, and the author felt inspired to try and give it one. It isn't like other completely amateur fan fictions. This one is very well written. It's honestly better than some of the professionally published works I've read lately. The author is clearly intelligent, and the book has a professional vibe. Everything feels very well thought out and explained, like he put a lot of time into researching his subjects and developing the plot.
The only obvious hindrance I see is sometimes the beginning of a new chapter is a little redundant. The author wrote this over the course of a year or so, and published it to his website in serialized fashion. But it's very easy to ignore, and doesn't interfere with the pace of the story whatsoever. It just sometimes feels like you've read the same paragraph twice. No big deal at all.
Give it a download. I'm about 40% in and I'm finding it difficult to put down.
