Jerry Lee - Live at The Star Club is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. If you haven't listened to it I highly recommend.

Very nice!! I got these two for Christmas. My girlfriend got me into Perturbator a month or so ago, and I freakin love the album art. It looks more like a metal album than synthwave. The Skyrim atmospheres is from my girlfriend. The record is clear, which I really love the look of.



I have 4 more on preorder, 2 of which are metal, 2 are electronic. Pretty excited about em.

Lol, I grew up with records and tapes. I find it simply astounding that you "youngins" actually desire to go backwards towards that shit. Nothing like an easily damaged format that degrades every single time you play it, physically, passes along every bit of dust, turn it up too loud and it skips possibly causing MORE damage. No thanks.

I got rid of all my vinyl YEARS ago. Don't miss it at all. I don't even keep CD's any more.

Even as a hardcore record hoarder I agree with most of this. Most of it. I do think maybe all your old gear possibly sucked though and tainted your experience. If turning up the stereo too loud makes things skip…something is wrong. I’ve personally witnessed records tracking perfectly with systems as large as 50,000 watts and so much bass it could cause hygiene problems. Beyond a certain quality level, skipping isn’t actually a thing record collectors deal with…maybe kids and grandmas and anyone with a KMart turntable from the late 80s maybe, people who wont even read the manual to set it up right, people with springy floors in their listening room, etc.

I break rounds in my Phantom more often than I hear my records skip.

Also if you ENTHUSIASTICALLY don’t have records or CDs you’re probably not much of a music fan and for sure blowing money on antique formats would be pointless. As much grief as I gave the OP, I think he’s more in the right space than that. There’s no point in having all this junk laying around just to play Back in Black for the trillionth time. Streaming will do the job.

Admittedly, it's been too long since I owned the equipment that I (mostly) used during that period. A very nice belt driven turntable, NAD preamp and a Carver M4 IIRC. Later on, and funny enough right at the end of the record era, I got a darned decent linear tracking turntable and as you say, no issue with that.
Just at the turn of CD to streaming/digital I delved into digital storage and high 'rate' formats such as flac and so forth. I digitized my entire collection and got rid of about 90% of the physical copies I had, which was a HUGE mistake. At that time I was not aware of bit rot, or the propensity for copies to cut moments off of the data. Most of my music is "mostly" intact, but have strongly considered deleting it all and doing away with NAS/home storage altogether. My hearing has degraded to a degree that I really can no longer tell the difference with most bitrate cut music from streaming services. Alongside that aspect is that most of what passes as "good" consumer drivers now are mostly trash until you get to a very high price point. Loads of gimmicks and bullshit on the market.
I long for the sound produced by my JBL L80T studio monitors.

Any of you guys mess with different cartridges or platters?

I'm looking at getting an acrylic platter, mostly so I can stick some RGB LEDs underneath. I just sent an email to the manufacturer of my turntable to find out if the one they make will work on my particular TT. I'm also curious about cartridges, and whether or not they're worth upgrading on a relatively cheap TT. I imagine that with the built-in pre, and the mediocre speakers I'm using it won't matter much.

I just got this rack of 80s stereo stuff from my in-laws over the weekend. It's all Fisher Studio Standard stuff, which I know isn't particularly "good" but it's still kinda fun. There's a turntable (MT-729 Linear Tracking turntable), amp, AM/FM radio, graphic EQ, and dual tape deck. The housing on the turntable is preventing the platter from spinning, and it needs a new cartridge. But other than that it seems to work.




Also came with a huge box of old records, like 50s-70s stuff. It's almost entirely old religious records though.

Actually it looks like I got the top left a year ago lol. But the second Faux Tales arrived in October IIRC, and I got the 2 Gunship albums for Christmas. They're two of my favorite bands of all time, I'm super excited to have these in my collection.

If you are into Vinyl I'd suggest getting a few 12" singles. Running at 45rpm and with greater modulation, they have lower noise and better dynamic range than most LP's. The one's I have are all extended club mixes from the 1980's.

I don’t know much about vinyl, but I do have exactly one record- Boston’s self-titled album. My wife has a bunch though, along with a case of 8-tracks & a case of cassettes.

When we get our house in order I’ll probably set up a station for my wife’s record/CD/cassette/radio combo. She usually just runs her iPod through it but it gets a lot of use around the holidays. Bing and Elvis get a lot of play time.

I have heard that 45s sound better than 33s due to "physics" (I didn't read the full article). When you say "with greater modulation," is that part of the 45 thing or is that something else? I'm still kinda dumb with this stuff.

Some of the albums I've picked up are 45s, including the one in the bottom right. I don't think my setup is good enough to take advantage of better sound though.
