Install a camera in the computer lab or assign students computers and have them sign a contract that if anything ever comes missing, they are responsible. Have their parents sign it too. Or have all the kids leave the classroom when you leave and lock the door.

There are problems with installing cameras in a classroom. Teachers (in our district) have been given the axe because of it. Having parents sign stuff like that in a high poverty district would cause them to not let the kids take the class. I'd rather risk having stuff stolen, than deny a kid the opportunity to take my class. The door is always locked, which is why I think it happened while I had a sub.
