    Resident Evil Reboot ***Official Discussion***

Did you guys see Resident Evil Welcome To Raccoon City?

***SPOILER ALERT*** ***SPOILER ALERT*** ***SPOILER ALERT*** ***SPOILER ALERT***

I know there are no new plot points but some people like to go in fresh, still.

I have mixed feelings about it to say that least

I actually caught it this past weekend and boy oh boy, I had loves, and I had hates, I understand why they did the stuff I didn't like but hey I loved it more than the "Alice" movies for the pure fact that they tried to stay closer to the video game storyline

Are they rebooting the game or the movie?

I welcome it, I know it is not what I wanted, but I love the old school video games so much, that I'll take any attempt. I enjoyed the original too. I will say I lost interest in the sequels, it didn't feel like Resident Evil, just a zombie series. People must have loved them, they kept making them...

I imagine the people who love the games are not the same people who love the movies. I'm a huge fan of RE and survival horror in general, but the experience is really hard to capture in film format. The first RE was fun, but it had nothing to do with RE. I feel similarly about Silent Hill, but as a standalone I actually did enjoyed the SH movie.

I always liked the Resident Evil series. I will check it out. I don’t care about the story line. I just love any Zombie style movie / show.

        My thoughts exactly.

Exactly, mate. We are huge fans of the games. So I'll take it too but I do find it a little bizarre that the studios that take on the RE franchise, which is very lore-rich -- can't seem to make a great movie. This one was mediocre at best. Did anyone else notice that WS Anderson was in the credits as a producer? I found that odd. What is he doing in there? get em the hell out of my RE movies. Completely and utterly. Personally, i wish they wouldve done something similar to The Hobbit where they broke up a single story arc into three movies. i know alot of people didn tliek the Hobbit and they say it couldve been made into just two. But I just mean that the Leon/Claire story arc alone could have been made properly and had more grit, more survivial/horror. I dont like how they slapped elements from RE 1-3 together like that. They pulled from too many directions and couldnt tell a single compelling story, competently. Aside from the impressive G-Birkin CGI -- B-movie from start to finish.

***SPOILER ALERT*** They made Leon into a complete doofus until the very end when he blows Birkin away with the rocket launcher. if I was producing it, I wouldve made a whole movie with just Leon and Claire mostly centered around the very beginning of the outbreak and the Tyrant, and then leave a cliffhanger of the G-Birkin. I also wouldve made it way more gritty and horrifying. It wouldve made a more compelling story and they couldve milked the shit out of the franchise which they love doing anyway so its a win-win for producers and consumers, both. Obviously Jill/Nemesis should be a movie all on its own and theyre probably going to introduce them next. But I also wouldve left the mansion as a prequel that couldve also involved the early government and Umbrella responses, ie.the Tyrants and Hunters, and other BWO's that were unleashed on the city, the Special Forces team that engaged the group of Tyrants, etc. i believe 6 tyrants were unleashed on the city, one of which is the one that engages Leon and Claire, the other 5 were neutralized by the Special Forces teams, which subsequently fell prey to the Hunters after being low on ammo and having suffered casualties against the tyrants.

I had no idea... but I will be checking it out.

I loved RE on the PS1. That shit was scary... when you were 11. Such a riveting time back then with console releases.

The movies I really liked, and quickly made the connection they were their own thing, so if this is more based on the video games I'm super interested. With more and more releases not coming from major Hollywood I think studios are more able to make movies closer to the original material.

Dude the first hallway scene when the dogs jump through the windows... that burned into my soul and will always bring me right back. I think that specifically is what turned me into a survival horror/horror fanatic. Good shit.

If they made it a direct copy to the first game, maybe included some bits or characters from resident evil 0 or 2, then I'd be interested. Release it around Halloween and make a sizzle trailer with a bunch of zombies and hunters in a creepy mansion. I'd see it.

Have you guys seen Daegon? I highly recommend it. In some ways it’s loosely based on HP Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth which influenced Shinju Mikami’s RE4. The movie is also based in an old Spanish town though, like the game, so I’m not sure if it’s coincidental or if the movie producers were inspired by RE4.

Dang, i accidentally clicked on "plugged in" rather the "the garage" and saw resident evil immediately.
ive played through that game (RE2) a few times back in the day. i was always amazed how everything was all connected.

              1st time, it took FOREVER...

i also remember throwing the controller on the floor when the thing with its brain on the outside of its head dropped from the ceiling in the hallway of RCPD early in the game. I think it was a "licker" or something. Even the background music from what i remember was insane and really set the mood.

man what a thursday morning throwback. even to this day, in my mid 30's traveling the US for training, my luggage bag has the Umbrella Corp. international biological solutions patch.

makes it real easy to spot on the carousel. lol

i havent really been a fan of any of the RE movies to be honest though.

The Lickers are one of the most well-done bad guys in those games, very H.R. Giger vibe. I also think they did a great job with the Hunters - if you don't have the magnum or a shit load of shotgun ammo they will ruin your day. Agreed on the movies, they're just not to my taste.

+1 same thoughts, exactly. But I don’t mind the first WS Anderson RE movie, even though the protagonist— Alice —- is non-canonical. I also don’t mind Afterlife as a complete loosely based RE5 film. But I still find it bizarre that no studio has been able to make a great movie given all of the rich lore set before them
