In solidarity with MCB going down, I formatted my PC.

I've been running on hard-drive fumes for the last year, can't live on 3gb free space on c-drive it's killing me. Finally after like 5 years formatted the machine and recombined all separate drives to one and wiped a lot of stuff indiscriminately. Here's to a fresh start :P

Protip : If you got the 'free upgrade' from Win7 to Win10, format using a Win10 disk or USB, not the WIN7, you can't upgrade from 7 to 10 anymore it won't accept your CD-Key. It will work if you use Win10 media tho.

Runs faster until it will inexplicably get bloated again in a year.

Dig through the ditches and burn through the witches. That's the only way to clean /C drive life.

I did have weekly witch-hunts with the towns-folk and yeah sure we'd burn 12gb here, 10gb there, but literally in the same week it'd be back in the red and I have no clue. Windows Update probably.. the scourge. A full cleansing may be necessary. Raptor 140gb 15,000 RPM disk hdd as main, ain't on that solid state tech yet. Other drive is a 1TB 7500 rpm drive slow practically useless.

      Edit:

Ah wow I forgot how shitty my headphones sound un-equalized. I've gotta add some basssssss

Once you use your Win 7 key to upgrade to 10, that key was dead and from that point your license is either according to hardware ID, or for some OS types, tied to your MS account. Win 7 is now out of support but it's unused keys can still be used to active an analog Win 10 type.

I make it a point to reformat my computer about every year or two just to keep things fresh and clean. My only regret with doing so lately has to do with MS licenses and policy, particularly as related to older Office license. They are pushing hard for you to be on subscription service.

My dude, it sounds like you need NAS. I strongly recommend Synology.

As for finding witches, there's none better than SpaceSniffer.

+1 for Synology. I got myself DS918+ a few months ago, and we have a couple Synology at work. They are easy to setup, easy to manage, and have a ton of additional apps that can be added for fun features like Plex and Pi-hole (through Docker).

Why SpaceSniffer over WinDirStat? I've used the latter for a while and never had an issue with it.

I've never used WinDirStat. There's nothing I want from SpaceSniffer, though. It just works. It's one of the portable exes that I keep in my cloud drive to run on any windows based system. Linux, as usual, requires special sauce.

Good news! You can pickup a 2 TB SSD (I like the MX500 drives) for x20 less than a 256GB SSD drive was 5 years ago. In a few more years we'll have 20TB SSD type drives as affordable drives.
Plenty of room to store your crap, you'll never need to delete anything ever again!
