In case you needed another reason not to order from Newegg:

I snagged a G9 from Amazon on sale. I think Samsung marked them down after the stir on reddit with the manufacturing issues. I am not noticing anything that others are complaining about, but bought it with my credit card in case Samsung warranty department decides to be difficult. I am hoping that the supply on these picks up soon, I was really hoping to have a 3080 for Cyberpunk since my screen res is now 5120 x 1440.

    Curve.

Ooooooo I want one so bad. It would be awesome to have one monitor to do everything on, I currently have 2 and my laptop screen.
I figure by the time I can pick one up there will be a new revision and the 3080ti/super will be available.

How does the split screen work out? Actually usable for work?

Yes, One 2 Mini RGB, got a KBDFans case for it which made it very weighty and is my current go to. Only thing I wish it had was wireless so I could take it with me for work but that's ok.

The PBP mode does work just like it is two monitors with the hot keys working for the switch. I do not really do a lot of work on it but it's even nice just for general browsing at a full size in the center with discord to one side and then Spotify to the other. I really bought it for Star Wars Squadrons and Cyberpunk. Witcher 3 on it looks amazing.

On topic, looks like there are some stability issues and they are quietly detuning the 3080 cards? ASUS may have delayed their STRIX release as rumor is that they are redesigning the PCB to try and correct the issue. Looks like I might be glad I didn't get round 1....

I can't really seem to figure out what to make of that. I saw the YouTube videos about that PCBs saying it's an issue, and the internet seemed to be resonating that. But now the internet is just saying it's a non issue and blown out of proportion. I don't know enough about electronics to know what's up.

I'm wondering if it will affect the 3070, or if it will be the same issue with those PCBs.

Unless my source of news is mistaken, Nvidia aren't having stability issues. They're having people complain when the card is forced to operate a few hundred megahertz over it's rated speed rather that allowing it to regulate it's own clock speed within (i.e. at or above) the advertised limits.

This basically. It's Nvidia flexing and shooting themselves in the foot at the same time. Consumers not understanding how technology works... at it again!
From how I understand it basically the card is overclocking itself because of Nvidia Boost, pushing the card past stability in a rapid rate that results in a crash. The Cards come with a stock frequency of 1440 Mhz, the card self boosts (overclocks) to 1700 Mhz. The issue is the Boost is regulated by thermals, so the card just keeps overclocking until it hits a card frequency cap or the thermal limit. On well cooled PC's that thermal limit might be 2000 Mhz which may not be fully stable on all cards.

This has been an Nvidia strategy for a while to kill the overclocking market, because it results in less overall RMA's, more profit. The cards are just overclocking past stability.

I see both points, that I just spent $700 on a hard to obtain card and it crashes, now you are asking me to slow my card down? Consumers don't get that the card is working as intended, because they see 2000 Mhz and assume that is expected of the card.

The other side being more reasonable but disappointed that their new top end card has to downclock by 50 Mhz out of the box.

The caps discussion is really talking about which cards are the best to overclock to 2000+ Mhz, which is lolz.

This is the part I'm questioning. Are stability issues being seen out-of-the-box or are users messing with the clock settings before stability issues are seen?

I know nVidia released a driver update that limits the clock rate to address the issue. That does imply, I think, that this was an out-of-the-box condition - but it's positive confirmation. If true, though, that is annoying but not something I'd be up in arms about considering how quickly they responded with a remedy (11 days from launch) to a problem that seems incredibly difficult to catch during MFG. Considering people were already raging against nVidia, though...and...here we are.

It is hit and miss from what I've seen. A card hitting the thermal limit sooner probably won't see this issue. As far as the new driver I don't actually think it is a straight downclock, but better logic implementation for the Boost behavior.

Additional overclocking will probably see more crashing, since the ceiling for stability is much less now that the card self overclocks. I'd guess that anyone buying a launch 3080 and getting one will most likely be PC savvy and try and overclock some more, cause that's what we do! Sadly I think days of getting "free" performance are gone.

I'd absolutely still buy one if I could.

Yea, I threw my hat in the ring but I am kinda thinking the 3080 TIs will be out before we get our notification. Keep an eye on your email if you do this, they said you only have 5 hours after they send you the link to order you they are skipping you.

I've been working with SLI bridged 980ti classy's and a strongly overclocked i7-2600k cpu for so long, I'll need to replace *everything* to take advantage of these GPU's. I do enjoy building PCs and piping custom watercooling but sourcing all of the components is a pain in the butt for me. I'm so lacking in current tech knowledge that just reading this thread was an eye opener.
