Nvidia’s melted power cables are an Nvidia problem

    well good read
The PCI-SIG standards body is now suggesting that Nvidia and GPU partners are at fault for not fully testing its 12VHPWR power connector.

Did not read the article, but I've been following this news. The issue is "some" cables were not in full spec, e.g. not to spec cable rating, possibly poor construction, however the "main" issue is it's a terrible consumer design. The cable was not plugged in all the way, and it is hard to tell if the cable is fully seated. The 4 small signal cables are designed to tell the power supply when full contact is made, however the plug could be in enough to engage those signal wires without being fully seated.

Over-engineered design. Note that the PCI-SIG does not make anything, they just design the technology standard. Nvidia or whomever are expected to apply manufacturing and material application to the power design.

If you have one... just make sure you plug it in all the way. The tabs should be fully closed.
