    Yes, undervolting is the new overclocking so to speak. Overclocking is kinda dead unless you are just going for benchmark scores.
    Since everything is setup for boost clocks you can often get to a certain boost clock at a lower voltage than "auto", and thus increasing potential boost clock limits because you are running cooler for the same clock speed and lower voltage.

    I guess to clarify, if undervolted correctly you can run cool at the same clock profile you'd get at stock.
    I don't have an AMD rig at the moment but just gaming at stock settings temp was not an issue with a 5800x3d. I don't trust motherboard controls to boost performance though, I tend to set everything mostly manually.

        Ya the 5700x3d looks good. Unless your running 3x 4k monitors and powering multiple 4090's you don't really need the best tippy top end CPU.
        I was doing some digital recording and editing many years ago on a 3770k, but I've since moved to an Intel 12600k with a 3080 12GB gpu. The game is usually the bottleneck right now not so much the hardware.
        I've had a lot less time to enjoy computers like I used too. This setup does everything I need it to right now, so no desire to explore newer tech just yet.

        I used to enjoy overclocking, but with the 12600 and 3080 it's been pretty interesting going the other direction and seeing how efficient I can get both hardware to get the best performance for the least cost.

          Remove the circled panel and you should be able to get the second fan to fit. Also right now your fans are setup such that you have negative pressure this will increase the amount of dust the computer collects. Id recommend flipping the rear exhaust fan to be an intake would provide fresh air for the rad and help balance the pressure.

            Ok, I’ll flip the rear fan. That sounds like a good idea. That 120 Cougar moves a lot of air.

            what do mean remove the circle panel? The fan enclosure?

            Regarding the fan settings, the pump should always be max/ 100%, correct? And the radiator fans can be curved. Any tips for curvature?

            also, I have 32 gigs of 3200 MHz Corsair RAM, and according to the Gigabyte app they were set at a default of 2400 MHz this whole time, so I set it to 3200. Now I wanna see if I can overlock it, maybe give the voltage a little boost.

            And I also repasted the videocard.

              I have both the rear and front fan connect To the same pwm controller in the back of the case, but i dont feel the Noctua moving any air even if I set it to max. It’s 150mm air cooler fan i used in my previous build. I think im going to swap it for the other Noctua AF-14 (3 pin)

            For best performance :
            Set fans to static 100%

            Tun a stress test for about 10 min to reach your max temp

            Turn the pump speed down ~10%

            Let stress test continue for 5 min

            Check temps if they increased,

            Repeat until temps go up when the pump speed is dropped



            Or just turn it down until you cant hear it anymore, thats what i did



            For memory overclocking i recommend you make a second boot drive and disconnect your other drives. Unstable memory can corrupt files and thats a pain to deal with. Using a burner os install to find your stable settings can save a lot of headache.



            The small rectangle cover can be removed, looks like its just one screw. You should be able to fit the second noctua with that panel out of the way

              Make sure you dont have the low noise adapter going to the noctuas. will look like a splitter or maybe a short extension for the fan cable. Its a resistor to reduce the power going into the fans to make them much quieter by reducing the speed.

                I removed the low noise adapter. In regards to the rear fan, however, it started making a vacuum noise when I flipped it. It’s interacting with the radiator fan. If I move it just a little bit lower— it stops making the noise but then i cant screw it.

              Maybe put the low noise adapter on the rear intake fan? Though at this point I'm sure you've had the computer put back together for a bit and would rather just use it.

                Yeah, I’ve been running games and benchmarking. I definitely got a boost in performance. I’ll go back and fiddle with the fans tomorrow

                Hey, regarding the memory. I enabled the XMP OC profile in bios. I enabled memory overclocking manually and even set the frequency at 3200 manually, but every utility including task bar shows my memory clock speed still at 2133. I tried to search online and found that a lot of people have this issue with unlocking the 3200 advertised speeds but I’ve tried all of their tips like enabling XMP etc. Any thoughts?

                Edit: wait nm, something fucky is going on. I disabled XMP, re enabled it, and now I see the 3200 MHz

              nice build, just reading this. For $50 more I would have sprung for the older 5900x, that chip had been a workhorse for me. $262 on Newegg right now.

                Thank you. Ths 5900x is a beast and an awesome value for productivity/ workstation. But I wanted the L3 cache of the “x3D” line since it’s strictly for gaming

                That will only help if the game takes advantage of it. You’ll run hotter and draw more energy, long run will cost more.

                I’d say around +25% on average, which is wild. This is the first time I upgrade the CPU without upgrading the GPU as well. But it’s not just the frame performance. It also fixed some orher issues I was having, like in MechWarrior 5 I was averaging about 45 FPS and I was getting screen tears, and crashes. I would crash a lot during the Dropship travel cutscene and now I have zero crashes and averaging a noticeably improved 60 FPS. Also I was getting somewhat seldom crashes in CS2 and I haven’t gotten any yet. I haven’t really played it that much though, so let’s see. Aside from those two, I wasn’t getting any crashes on any other games with the 3600 but even for GPU optimized games: I got a 10-15% boost in performance. I think unlike an 8+ core count most games do benefit from the AMD (L3) Cache especially 1) CPU heavy games and 2) if you’re running an older GPU.

                I’ll probably do a second playthrough on BG3 since it’s a CPU heavy game. My 3600 ran it fine at 1440p with high settings right up until the last battle where you call reinforcements and you have 50+ characters battling. My FPS was dipping way below 30 with noticeable lag/stutter. So I had to lower my settings to low for the final battle lol

                I have Cyberpunk 2077 in my Steam library and I’m really tempted to test it now — but I want to play it with ray tracing and high-ish FPS, so I’m waiting until I upgrade my GPU to the 50xx.

                Edit: It goes without saying but I’m happy with my upgrade. I am happy that I can save money by not having to build a whole new system, especially considering how ridiculous GPU prices have gotten. I’m tempted to pick up an AMD card just because of Nvidia’s anti-consumer gouging. That’s really the issue - since the crypo mining craze - Nvidia realized that the enthusiast market was willing to pay $800 for a mid tier card and $1500+ for a flagship.
