I think they are both pretty standard. Both have good support. The HO stuff is easier to store as it is smaller. You can have more cars and track and build a longer track to scale without taking up as much room. Depending on how much space you have the HO scale may be desirable. The HO size is also more historic and nostalgic in my opinion (look up Model Motoring T-Jets). You do often sacrifice detail though.

But yeah, I remember growing up it was all 1/64. I had a few race-sets. No idea the brand or anything. Just that one set had two older Audis racing in the front. But I even loved the box

I would say the 1/32 and 1/24 scale are better racing in terms of car setup. I wss able to purchase different ring and pinion gear ratios, different tire compoung and diameters, motor armatures,so i could dial in the car for the track conditions. Ho is limited on parts but still ways to get more speed, but slot car racing to me was far superior to rc. The tracks we raced were 8 lane and werr computer controlled for soecs like top speed,laps completed,etc and you would race all lanes for a certain time period. Pole position would chose starting lane.

Sweet. Yeah, from the YT videos I was watching yesterday, it gets pretty crazy. What are all the track conditions? I mean aside from plastic vs wood. If you go to a venue, they tell you “oh we have Carrera track” etc?

For sure, I will be getting 1/32. I just love that the hobby doubles as a model building/collecting. I even saw the blank chassis ready for painting.

1/24 is very appealing too. The cars are big enough to showcase and would be funner to tune IMO. I was watching this bench test

Yes he actually made a slot truck of the truck, it’s when he owned the truck, so the door art is what he had on there.

That’s stunning. I love real life cars that look so good they look like toy cars. I feel the same about firearms. Once you build them up and add a suppressor - they looks so good that they look like airsoft/airguns.

Used to be a field in Springfield, mo called raceway hobbies. Paintball, rc, and slot cars. That was my only experience with anything larger that 1/64. If I found a track near me, I’d go fer it.

It’s hard to decide between HO and 1/32. The footprint for the track is certainly an issue. For 1/32, I would have to mod a frame to be wall mountable (like the OP pics). I want to have it permanent/dedicated. And on the other hand, I was looking at some of these HO cars and they are very detailed too and the dimensions look good.

I don’t quite get this hobby. The cars are beautiful, but at 1/32 not as beautiful as they would be at the usual 1/24. They are also too beautiful to survive derailing even one time and therefore, too beautiful to use.

It all seems more collector-y than racy.

I don't know some of those guys would beg to differ. It's an actual sport with tournaments, etc. There's a 24 hours Slot (Gran Touring) LeMans. There's even drag racing, I think the professional scene is mostly 1:24 though. Here'e a good YT video on slot dragracing:

But in terms of "not getting it" people street race their much more expensive cars on the street. these are worth a few hundred dollars at most whereas real cars obviously can be worth hundreds of thousands. ANy damage by derailing or collisions, I dont think is catastrophic in any case. And it's like any other RC hobby, or hobby for that matter. You either like it or you don't. Everything is subjective... I like this hobby as something to do with the kids, personally.

Give HO some serious consideration, since the tracks take up less space I think it is easier to experiment with different layouts and designs.

1/32or 1/24 if you have the space to dedicate to something permanent.
