One pheasant opening day this year. Got a lot of miles of walking this season. You guys have some late deer seasons.

That's wild. We're the month of October usually for rifle.

I had a pretty cool thing happen pig hunting back in March in Francis Marion (South Carolina). I drove down a dead end road, parked the car and stepped off into the woods. Hog sign was everywhere so I walked slowly about 20 minutes or so and leaned against a tree waiting for the woods to come back alive. I see some movement far ahead and it turns out to be 3 pigs about 30lbs bouncing around and coming towards me. When one finally stopped I dispatched it with a single shot. Being small enough to carry out easily in one piece AND being the perfect size to cook whole I took my time cleaning it and bagging everything up.

While I'm wrapping up, still with rubber gloves on I hear a noise behind me. I turn and look to see a big boar slowly cruising through the swamp. I grabbed my rifle that was leaning on a nearby tree and drilled him in the shoulder. He ran about 40yds before keeling over. First time hunting this spot and get 2 pigs within 45 minutes. Of course I didn't see another thing over the next 2 days minus some oyster mushrooms.

nice, sometimes I wish pig hunting was a thing in PA even knowing the damage they cause se.

You know, I'm totally conflicted on it. Walking the areas they live, they're destroyed. Everything is rooted up, anything that lives on the ground (Turkey nests!) gets eaten up. But damn if they aren't fun to hunt and eat.

I got into hunting them under the premise of them being invasive but the more I read and understand them the more I feel eradication techniques need to be used and private pay to hunt reserves need to be stopped.

I get that, I know they are terrible for the ecosystem they end up in. With that said everyone that’s hunted them says how fun a time it is and that the meat is quite good.
