Eye VS Sound based Halo - Which do you like?

Which does everyone prefer (and why)?

I have a broken V35 that I'm giving away locally today, and I bought a prophecy to replace it. I'm wondering if I'm making a mistake. I don't plan to use it to shoot super fast or anything, just when anything more gentle won't do.

I still use my eye version halos. I just picked up a sound version halo to try on my pumps/mech guns.

You can convert eye version halos to sound and keep it as a spare. I might be interested in the parts.

I have both and prefer the eye version. I find the sound version doesn't feed reliably on modern guns. Even with sensitivity turned all the way up, it doesn't play well with electros. Works fine on mech or blowbacks.

        Sound, eyes can go blind

Most of the sound hoppers take a baseline reading when you turn them on, if turn them on somewhere quiet they do better

The sound were always better for me

Always hated the sound-activated loaders. I'm sure they're better now, but back when I primarily used a Halo, and before they came out with the magna clutch and stuff, my sound activated model would randomly try feeding when I wasn't shooting, which led to broken balls in the feed neck due to tension issues. It was horribly irritating, and I've never gotten over it.

Nowadays, I have a standard Halo (in a Halo Too shell), a Revy, Spire IR, and a Rotor. All of which either use eyes, or have a means of sensing stack pressure. I haven't had any issues with them, so I'm pretty certain I won't be trying sound-activated again.

You want gentle get a revvy w/ eyes. There is one in the BST for like $25 with the good indestructible shell and extra internals.

I had issues with sound activation some markers are not loud enough for them to register a shot and feed.

My favorite is a 1st gen Rotor I just adjust the stack pressure how I want it. I Made lil notches in the torque adjustment screw for different setups. You can find them dirt cheap.

For pump or non detent markers I just run a real good low cap grav fed like my JOLO.

The amount of battery’s you will go threw in a season keeping a Halo going will more then pay for one of those new hoppers that are much more power efficient. That’s the main reason I stoped using them. They eat battery’s 6 at a time. My rotor will last 6x-8x as long on the same amount of battery’s used in the Halo and it’s tool less.

I have a broken Prophecy in parts somewhere if you need parts. You can have em. But I would just get a revvy if you don’t shoot over 10bps and have a lot non detent markers. Or a cheap used Rotor for detent markers. They can be had from $25-$50 used. I just snagged an R2 for like $50. I’m still using my gen1 rotor from 06, in fact I’m going to put another two cases threw it today at practice.

I liked the sound activated ones, but had issue with a couple of markers being quiet enough not to activate it reliably.

I've got both a new Halo Too and and old Empire Scion (translucent smoke Halo shell, but with eyes) I bought used off eBay and fixed up. The Halo Too feeds much more reliably and seems less prone to jams.

That general impression may be confounded by the fact that 1) the Scion is rather old and 2) the Scion has a lid while my Halo Too has a speed feed, so I tend to use the Scion when it is rainy and paint is therefore more likely to swell or stick together.

Between the two, overall I favor... ...the old beat up Rotor R1 I bought for like $45 off eBay that has never jammed on me and is still running off the batteries the last owner left in it. The biggest drawback is the capacity, as there is no way it is anywhere close to 200 rounds. I've got a high cap upper shell that's (supposedly) coming in the mail from some dude on the Dye B/S/T Facebook group. Should fix that problem. Only other downside to my old Rotor is that if I shoot it completely empty it sounds like I'm mixing margaritas out on the field.

The Automag: Not as clumsy or random as an electro. An elegant marker for a more civilised age.

Yes margaritas! It really does lol. Don’t let it get empty silly. All these young bucks that need an LED and sound to tell them when to reload. Mine makes margaritas when it’s empty you know it. I have never noticed the capacity issue but I run the cheap basic 140 round pods so when I leave them on the field, mash them into the mud, or step and smash the lids off em. IDK

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try the Prophecy out a bit and see how it does. I'm only really planning to use it on my mg100 warp adapter when I don't want to deal with a Vmech. I'll stick to gravity feed or a vmax+ on electros.

It might not work for you depending on the barrel you use. The Mg100 is on the quiet side. It may not register the shot and it’s Mech so you can’t use the RF ability.

This is why I prefer eye or tab based loaders on the rare occasion I use an electronic hopper.
