Is there a thread for the size of commonly available paint? If there isn't one maybe it's a good idea? It would be nice to know the size of certain paint before buying and would also be able to get an idea of an average size, largest, and smallest across the market.

There is zero consistency with paint lately. Locally my field paint differs so wildly throughout the year we don't mix paint from different outings.Comment

Proper post-production storage makes a difference too. I've gotten paint from the same order that was wildly different depending on how it was stored (temperature, humidity, rotation, sun, etc.)
The sad state of affairs is that paintball quality and size is pure chaos and no company is producing consistently great paint these days. I have personally had better luck with GI vs. Valken, but I know a ton of people nearby who have the exact opposite experience.💀 PK x Ragnastock 💀Comment

imagine it were hyper consistent and the cost increased to that of ammunition.
ive seen 9mm being sold for up to $3 PER ROUND.
the best i can find if $0.60 per round of anything really (.223 / .380)
if paintball were to follow ammo, a case would jump to $1,200.
thats a stretch though lol
i would imagine if the entire process has to be re-vamped that the cost would go up. no way around that. Careful storage pre and post production, rejection of OOT balls, increased sensitivity of the tooling and production process.... all adds cost. i dont think the market for expensive paint is really there. how long would boxes of paint that cost 2x as much as the next sit in the little shed at the field before it went bad.Comment

That's a pretty insane argument and not at all consistent with paint historically. RPS paint had a better shell in the past and has incredible consistency and only cost perhaps a 20% premium over competing paints. It's not that there isn't a market for better, more consistent paint, it's that the industry has shifted towards higher margin production. Basically paint manufacturers have given up on past standards because players now will accept a lower grade of paint and still pay the same amount but just shoot more. It's somewhat price fixing based on lower expectations.Comment

Real ammo has a much harder capacity limit on production due to more involved supply chain and stuff.
Paintball goo easier to come by, and the demand remains low through the pandemic vs a billion new gun owners.Comment

The Nelson Ranger my local field uses runs about 0.688. It fits comfortably in my Dye UL barrel that is 0.688 and my CP barrels that are 0.689 and 0.691.
