Any elec. motor experts here...

I bought a electric fan for the greenhouse and I don't know how to hook up the leads.
it came with sevens coded wires and I was expecting only two plus a ground..
i think I know but it's better to make sure...
all I want is 120 power and I'll hook up a sensor switch for on/off..

Its confusing cuz the " low voltage" diagram calls out Line 2. I believe you either need both phases to the motor, or you line 2 is basically your neutral.

So take your hot to P1.

bond the leads labeled p2, T8, and T3 together and insulate that connection.

Line 2 ( neutral?) Bonds to t2, T4, and T5.


That being said, unless motors have a starting capacitor, I think you really need Line 1, and Line 2 fed to the motor. Not line 1 and neutral. (Even though it says single phase its like a split phase. You need 2 offset voltages to make it move initially.)

Great, thank you much...... I am a bit confused on how line two connects to the motor if I'm using it for a neutral....
And how do I know where it connects inside the casing...

Im assuming you are taking this to a walll plug?


In the photo there if a flat spot to the right of that motor. It looks like theres a 1/2 conduit fitting thread there out of the side. . Add a cord grip in that hole.with a cord grip feed the power wire into that hole.


Black wire of your cord lugs to P1 of the motor. Tuck them away.

T8 P2, and T3 are all leads in the motor. Lug them together, and tuck them away.


You should have T8, T4, and T2 left in the motor for internal wires, lug them together and also lug the white wire of your cord to them.

Tuck em away


Edit: lug the ground to the case.

Put the plate on.



I wish I was close to you. Id happily wire this for you just to see what goodies are being created in the shop.

Obvi, you ground your green wire to the case also....

It's common for industrial motor to call the neutral "line 2"but line 1 and line 2 are interchangeable ... Hot or neutral doesn't matter.


For the starting cap. It's common for fan/blower to not have them on single phase. They don't need low speed torque.

Also, ground is not shown on the diagram, but it's always good to have it.

I try to disconnect the panels when working on them but between the water (our machine are mostly use for water disinfection) and calibration there isn't much room for mistake ...

I knew some of us (the mcb team) would be experts as most of us are in some ways, our group is so amazing...
And..
got her wired up and and working now I just need to mount it..
its going to be installed at the peak of the greenhouse to help with them heat...
my greenhouse is pretty big at 32x80 and gathers a bunch of heat even though I have the solar blanket on top.
It has two big 4x4 fans in front and five 4x4 vents in the back but like this is going to get that high heat out i hoping...
My cilantro is melting right now...
