So I just got this Revvie...

And it turns out it is a VL-2000 power series, 9v. It isn’t a revolution at all, heck it isn’t even an 18v shredder it has a different battery system so it looks incompatible with revolution board too.

so how much worse is this than a plain old x board Revvie? Very little info out there for this it seems. It has the tiniest little 2 paddle impeller, so I suspect it isn’t going to be as good but how much not as good?

They definetly dont feed any better than a gravity hopper when almost empty. They work well enough when full. I use one on my mac 1 set up. It works well to the point I havent yet out pumped it.

They would work on a pump or a mech set up depending on your play style.

I got it mostly for use on a Tippmann Pro-lite/M98 or a Shocker 4x4 till I get some detents added to it. The Shocker might be able to use the Halo by just setting the bolt pulse really fast but, the Pro-lite just plain looks wrong with a Halo on it.

Thats the nice thing about the vl2000,its skinnier than the revvy in tye electronic section, so if its a small profile you are after, it more closely mimics the feel of a gravity hopper.

Not just skinny feels like there is nothing inside this has to be the lightest hopper ever my old APP gravity hopper with the Everdur lid certainly weighted more than this.

I used to rock a 9v before I got rid of most of my hoppers. They're fine for slower guns, pumps and OG mechs. You may be able to outshoot one with a shoebox, but you'd really have to get on it.

Yup, this is my preferred VL to have on a pump if I want to play open class and not carry pods. Just enough agitation to keep the ball column full without shaking.

So would it be worth it to change the paddles or is there just not enough force in the 9v to make a difference?

It can be upgraded with a shredder box, 12VDC regulator and later paddles but I'd not waste my time on converting it. Just find an "18 VDC" [actually 12 VDC] VL that takes 2 batteries. These are easy to identify by the on/off Switch being up high on the left side of the hopper just below the lid. If the on/off Switch is on the bottom left side near the eyes it is the older style like you have. If you decide to liquidate the 9VDC one you are unhappy with you can sell it as is on here pretty easily or just PM me and I'll either buy or exchange you for the dual battery version.

I am still at 5 guns (7 if you count the vert feed shocker my old teammate says they will send me and the Blazer PPS is making for me) but only at 3 hoppers so I still need more so I will probably hold onto this one.

I'd leave it as is. Motor torque will be limited due to the 9V power source. These actually work OK on an old angel with intellifeed option, if you set it up for dual power sources using a doide on the angel output.

I had a 9V Revvy back in the day and it was unimpressive to say the least. I remember outshooting it with a Trracer if I really got on the autotrigger. Good for a Spyder at best. The little tiny impeller doesn't really go over the actual feedneck so I don't think it moves the paint around enough to not jam.

Yeah, that's probably the problem. The AT is so smooth on those it doesn't really agitate the hopper. CCM could take notes from the old Trracer.

I actually used to have this problem with my Brass Eagle Tigershark in that the movement to auto trigger was so violent that when I was low on paint I must have been flinging it away from the feedneck of the hopper. I was just using one of those APP sight feeders though.

My 9v has been awesome for 21 years now. I got it with my first Spyder kit in 99/2000, and I never had an issue with it, though I eventually did move on to the 12v, Halo, Rotor, etc. My dad now uses the 9v on his Tippmann, all these years later. Still going strong, and it's quick enough for him. I'm not sure what kind of feed rate it can sustain, but he can get some real quick bursts without skipping a shot.

My 9v Revvy has splines on the motor.
My spare 4 blade paddle has a hex drive so they are not interchangeable.

There were upgrade paddles that used splines and some that had a screw holding it in and some 9VDC VL had Splined servo shafts and some had the Hex and screw it really depends on whether it was built originally with original ViewLoader parts or later ViewLoader parts sourced by Brass Eagle. They are upgradable if you find the parts but I'd not waste the time since there are so many dual battery VL out there.

Changing the paddle without changing voltage will make it feed even slower. The original 9VDC servo is good to 12VDC but worked "fine" at 9VDC so it was a simple circuit. To raise the voltage => servo torque you need a supply that can provide 12 VDC max so 2 series 9VDC batteries will provide 18VDC and most of the servos will work at 18VDC for a while but most will not last when you add a 2nd battery you also need to wire in a Regulator to drop the voltage to 12VDC.

The new Empire reloader has a splined shaft and big 4 blade paddle. That might be an option. Then again if you got an empire reloader it's much better than a 9v revvy anyway.

I found that out the hard way after buying a 4 pronged revvy impeller from Bacci that was listed as being for revvies and VL2000s. Nope. My late 90s VL2000 has a splined motor.

So, I know it has been a few months, but I figure I might as well update this for anyone that searches too. The performance is kind of hard to explain so here is a video of it with a clear elbow so you can see when it is and when it isn't loading

As you can see, sometimes even a decently quick string of paint has it filling the elbow pretty quickly other times it takes a weirdly long time to get any paint back in the elbow. If I had to guess I would say the hopper performance is greatly tied to how much paint is in the hopper.
