Spyder VS2 - ASA reg issues

Picked up a super cheap Spyder VS2. Leaks from the reg/asa combo. I took it apart apart and changed the bad orings, greased and it leaks as soon as I air it up. Looks to way too high of pressure, so reg isn’t working. I will replace all the orings this go around. Are there any tricks to these regs?

I know they’re not the best, but ideally would like to get it to work. Lame of Spyder to make you need an adaptor to run a better reg.

Additionally, what other bodies will the balanced valve fit in? Might be cheaper to just switch to a different body that can take a reg better.

It's common on the earlier Spyder bottomline regs that the small metal piece with orings that's behind the piston goes bad. Those orings are often overlooked because there's no obvious way to get at them or know they're there (until it leaks). Best way to get those out is to (carefully) blow the metal piece out with air in the ASA. With all that said I don't know how comparable the VS2 is to this one.

Balance Valve internals will work in any standard Spyder body that uses an 015 striker oring as far as I know. If it has a valve retaining crosspin, you'll need to plug that.

Some of the spyder guys will chime in show shortly but the balance valve and striker will work in almost any older compact body spyder with minor modifications.

As far advice the ASA reg goes, throw it in the trash. Not joking. I had a VS2 I picked up used and couldn’t get that thing to work correctly. I threw in the towel, got the VA adapter to accept standard inline regs and actually enjoyed the marker. Not trying to burst your bubble... I really wanted to get that thing to work but I looked around as you are doing and came to this reality like so many others.

Where does it leak? The front or the side? The on-off on the side had a leak and I needed pliers for the c-clip.

Seems to vent from high pressure. That c-clip was a bit of a pain to remove. Leveraged it off with a small screwdriver.

The balance valve requires the matching striker/hammer, or else it won't work correctly. As others said it will fit in any slim striker body, but you'll need to fill the cross pin so air does not vent there. You must use a regulator with it. Pressure over 400-450psi can blow out the internal o-rings in the valve.

So once you get it in, you have to do all the other Lower Pressure tweaks to "most" spyder bodies to get it to shoot at field velocity.
I stuck one in an MR2 and an EMR5 with good success, with enough volume to hit 350-400 psi.
The most popular mod is to put a balance valve in a AMG.

I've never used the stock VS2 reg but only heard horror stories of it. Use a Spyder Java bottom-line reg or a Palmer Female Stab if you want to keep the bottom-line setup.

Right now it’s venting out the regulator adjustment screw and not wanting to cooperate.
