ICD HR1 bolt oring sizes?

I can't find too much on the HR1 bolt and it's oring sizes, and what little I can is contradictory. It's for a Freestyle Pro which appears to be slightly different from the 04/05 Freestyle HR1 bolts.

I'd ask over at ICDO but it seems to be collecting cobwebs.

You might be better off just asking ICD themselves, since they're still around and doing things, they might still have tabs on Hawk and Knuth respectively.

It's been a couple of years, but ICD Gary has been good at responding. He even sent me a couple of, uhm, detention bearings free for my PRP when I launched mine somewhere into the nasty green stuff they called shag carpet which covers one of my floors.

ICD are good folks and still around. They just aren't in paintball much since The Lawsuit.

The bolt and can orings are both regular ol' -017 rings. 70 durometer buna will work fine here. The stem orings should be 008s and need to be 90 durometer urethane. I'm 90% sure they are 008, but it has probably been a decade since I last rebuilt one with an HR1 bolt. I worked with Rocky and Hawk back when this was all being made - they are great shooting guns when all tuned correctly.

Getting those orings to Canadia might be spendy, so I would definitely confirm the size first. If you have a regular black buna ring, it will be pretty obvious if the fit is correct. If you shoot it with regular buna rings, they'll likely fly right off. I think theoringstore.com ships to Canada and they sell the best urethane money can buy. Here's a link to the guys you want (as long as 008 is correct...).

Another little tip - these bolts need to be timed. Luckily, I get to skip the typing because it's still up on pbnation. You can read about timing your bolt here. It's pretty simple and makes a world of difference in the shot quality and efficiency.

Fantastic - thank you for that info.

The little I've gleaned from PBN indicated that it would be 008-90s on the stem and I happened to have a couple extra in an Automag rebuild kit, so I put them on... just seemed a bit stiff to move, so I was hoping to confirm sizing.

But - I do not have Superlube oil at the moment, which appears to be a necessity on these things, so I ordered a small syringe off Amazon and will be trying it out once it arrives.

I read a thread on timing the HR1 and from what I can tell, it is set up correctly. Once I have the correct lube and some time this weekend, I hope to throw a bit of paint through it over a chrony to see how it is.

I was able to rebuild virtually everything on the gun with the orings I had on hand and so far, I'm pretty happy with it. Definitely nicer to work on/set up compared to my 04 FS I had a few years ago.

You definitely want the oil on the 017s. The 008s are best with grease, but the superlube oil will also work. I use superlube grease on the stem orings, but dow33 will get the job done. At first ICD was using grease on all of the bolt orings, but switched to oil to keep bolt cycle speed up (this was in the middle of the arms race, super high rof was a must).

I don't know if I have any other hot tips, but I'm happy to answer any questions you have. I worked on a lot of ICD guns back in the day and still own quite a few. My fs8 is one of my favorite battery powered guns - even though I haven't played a game with it in years.

I wanted to update this thread with my findings - ICD info is quite difficult to find and ICD itself not very forthcoming with info, in my experience.

The critical orings, in my eyes, are the dynamic seals on the bolt. They are 017-70 urethane for the bolt head and can, and 008-90 urethane for the stem seals.

Urethane is a requirement on this bolt system - buna is too sticky. I tried buna initially, as that was all I had on hand, and if the marker sat idle for virtually any length of time the bolt would essentially seize up from the "stiction" of the orings. You might get away with 017s in buna but the bolt moves noticeably freer with the urethane 017s I installed.

I'm tempted to try some 017 quad rings I have, but that's a test for another time.
