    Who uses peg board?

So I'm in the process of designing my paintball space, I've had mixed feeling about peg board, on one hand I like the versatility of it for hanging markers and projects, on the other I don't like that every time I pick something up the pegs seem to fall out

Have I just had the wrong pegs in the past or is that just common for peg board?

They make generic plastic keepers to hold the individual hooks in place or specialty hooks that have slip on retainers.

Im just really careful about lifting my markers off of the pegs and I rarely lose a leg from the board. They should only really fall off when you run one through the trigger guard, then lift the marker up too high as you remove it. But it does happen tome to time.

If they are falling off, you can try to bend the top pegs inward a little. Maybe the pegs you bought are slightly under bent.

Mine have to be tipped up quite a bit to come free.

I inherited peg board in my new shop and pretty much hate it. As I build out the new workbench I will have to decide what I replace it with and it might be plain old plywood sheathing.

I was the same for several years. As I ran out of space I made more of an effort to use it.

Get one of the multi hook accessory kits so that you can hang up things as they hit you. The plastic keepers are useful too.

Also, hang stuff that doesn't fit in drawers and cabinets well, or that you need access to at a particular spot on the bench. Those are two different areas.

My favorites are straight pegs for saws, wheels, and for the cordless drill. The drill sets with the chuck lose around the peg so you can just grab it or stab it.

          The layout still changes though.

So far, I have not ripped it out. In my previous shop I went with French Cleats but they are more work to build. Before that I did plywood sheathing and laid out shadow boards but they lack flexibility without a lot of redoing. So far I have bought several large magnet bars and mounted that to the peg board. I need a properly built bench to replace existing and play with layout a while before I make any decisions. I really do not display stuff for display purposes but use my wall above the bench like you are talking about Spider! as a tool wall. I want a clean easy to use layout for the tools I use regularly that is secure and flexible. My problem with peg board is partly the instability of the hangers and if you use the plastic hold downs the pain in rearranging and the fact the previous owner did not offset the peg board from the studs so those holes are unusable. I have thought about using something like the Wall Control Metal "peg board" as a compromise. My new shop is significantly smaller then my last one so I have very little wall space available so I want to figure out the most efficient way to leverage that space.

I’m not a big fan on my pegboard for the reasons you just said (the plastic retainers to make a big difference, but they can snap). Right now, the pegboard serves its purpose for my tools and some of my markers and I don’t have space for anything else.

I use the rubber coated, tool “cradles” for my markers and they hold onto the rack OK - I just wish you could hang either direction with them(the plastic retainers do help).

Eventually, I want to get vertical wire racks for my markers….that’ll have to wait until the next house.

Got a link or a photo of these? I'm not sure I know what they are

I use a peg board. I purchased panels from Home Depot or Lows that you can add more as you go. Mine is getting full but it works well for me. After kids I lost my play room so now I have a play Closet. The hooks came with plastic retention clips that secure them to the board. I used shrink wrap to cover the contact surface on the hooks so it don’t nick any fancy Ano. But I probably would just use Plasty Dip tool coating next time. Works fine for me I’m still carful hanging stuff tho. Some pegs I can fit 4 phantoms with stocks and 14” barrels.

I got it at Lowe’s it’s this one.. I got 6 of these.

You can also just use washer fluid hose (or similar) slipped over the pegboard hooks for protection. Its really flexible almost like foam rubber.

I hated pegboard until I picked up these hooks.

See this is why I love mcb. Ask some obscure question and it turns out a dozen people have experience with that issue already

                Thanks guys
