96 Cocker Valve Jam Nut Q

Hi all,

I'm rebuilding a 1996 Autococker for a project, and while installing the lower tube internals, I noticed the new jam nut I bought doesn't fit. I can get the threads to start for a very small amount of turn, but then everything jams up. I didn't want to force anything or go about trying to clean up the threads until I verified that 96 bodied Cockers take the same valve jam nut as newer Cockers. I've not worked on anything older than 98 before. Nothing online I can buy suggests there are different size nuts, but I know there were different size valves, so thus the question.

In my experience all of the valve jam nuts are the same size, for WGP bodies taking 9/16 valves, which should include the 91-04 bodies.

Those threads can be stripped out, so you are right to be cautious.

Are you sure the valve retaining screw on the bottom of the body is removed while trying to re-insert the spring/valve/jam nut setup?

Thanks for the clarity. I'm working from an empty lower tube. Once it stuck, I pulled everything out and just tried the nut alone to see if there was some part binding. Same stopping point either way.

Now to try to inspect and repair the threads.

Also you may try a different nut, as perhaps that is the problem. Granted not all of us have just piles of random cocker/mag/spyder/tippmann/sheridan/godknowswhatelse parts lying around, but this is MCB so I assume you might

have seen those threads partially stripped couple times, also could be gobbed with loctite. i run a tap through them and have had good luck

I've been on MCB so long, I do in fact have piles of parts to many things laying around. Two tackle boxes just of Cocker bits, and an entire tote of parts for types of guns I don't even own anymore, but might again some day.
