Did I Make A Tank Mistake?

In the quest to make my shocker a small, compact package, I had my local shop put together a 5-year old 48/4500 Empire tank onto my In-line Max Flo. They are rebuilding the reg, hydro-testing the tank, and putting it all together.

I'm wondering if i made a mistake though. With such a small tank, I'm wondering if holding the gun will be awkward. As in if I "shoulder" the tank, it will be too close to my face.

I haven't gotten the package back yet, so I may be worried about nothing.

On the plus side, I do have the long Bloodline rail to mount it to. So I can always turn it around and hang it out back a little further if needed.

    Thoughts?

    Flip your rail around tada!

I don't think it will be a problem. My stuff is set up closer than that, and I have beavertails.
Lighter and tighter responds a lot quicker too. Your wrist angle will change though.

All depends on you. The conventional wisdom for tanks is same as length of pull on a rifle. Hold your gun with your finger on the trigger (safely) and bend your elbow to a 90° angle. The back of the tank /stock should be able to touch your bicep.

That's the conventional wisdom. I personally prefer a better balanced and slightly too short setup to one that is the 'right length'. I like to have my forearm tucked into the necked down part of the bottle, which I find easier to do with shorter bottles.

I prefer my stuff this way as well.

I find conventional is usually a result of Stockholm syndrome. 🙂

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm on the smaller side, and I've always liked more compact set-ups. I've never had a 48 ci "peanut", and was second guessing myself.

I think I'll just wait and see (like I should have to begin with lol) and if I need to, switch around the rail to gain a little length.

I run a 45/4500 and it works good for me. I have a 50 /4500 peanut which is even shorter than the 48, I like the length of pull on that one but the tank is an older one so it's way too heavy.

If you're a smaller guy I think you'll like it and you can always change it if you don't but you never know unless you try.

I have an old 45/45 and I love its length. Q 50 ci is too short imo, but a 45 is a nice length.

              It will work great.

The 48 is a stubby like a 50ci so will not be as good as a 45ci being fatter (more in the way of your arm) and shorter, but it will still work fine.

I was looking for a 45/4500, with its longer, skinnier profile. Unfortunately, all I could find at the time in that size was a new tank. Saved a little money by taking the used (but excellent condition) 48 ci tank they had, even after the fresh hydro.

              Drop forwards for the win!

Why the inline maxflow? That thing has to weigh a sizable percentage of the rest of the marker.

              Not judging, just curious

Had one on my old shocker back in the mid 2000's. Always liked them, and kinda a nostalgic feeling for me. Plus its just a little more different and unique than the norm

              Couple days old now, but...

I run a 45/45K on my setups nowadays. Even on my Emek it's not too short. For reference, I'm 6'4", so I have long arms. It did take some time for me to adjust, but the weight savings has me sold on it. What pintbuster said- your wrist angle will change a bit. But it's nothing you can't get used to.

I love setups like this. I run a peanut or a 15ci on all of my bottomline HPA guns. As long as you don't have a back block whacking you in the face you shouldn't have any issues, but like others have said it's all going to come down to personal preference. I love tiny compact setups, but I can't shoot long/rifle-style builds to save my life.
