Bounce beam eye question

How close to the breach does a bounce beam ie: Eblade eye need to be?

I want to run eyes on my Morlock'ed e-bolt 98 but I really don't have room for breakbeam, so I want to run an Eblade eye looking down into the breach, from the top... I'm going to run the wiring along the sight rail with a cover, possibly. Maybe. If I can make it look neat.

Do I need a minimum distance?

PS: Im putting break beam on my Morlok E-98 with all teh wires on teh inside ... no outside wiring at all, it does fit!

If I had a mill I'd be putting it all inside... but I don't.

And... my arrangement internally is likely very different from how you're doing it. 🙂

Probably, just thought I'd share that it does fit if you carve out a channel.
I'll be starting a build thread shortly so we can all share ideas and experience.

I'm willing to bet you want to be closer to the paintball than half the distance to the far side of the breech. Signal-to-noise ratio and all.
Having the eye recessed into a tube, to "focus" the active area, and using flat black (or even graphene) coatings on everything not the paintball will improve sensitivity.

Finally, try for an angle that aims directly at the center of the ball, but will also be oblique to any other surfaces, to minimize reflection off anything but the ball.

The default setup is catching close to 100% of the emitter, because it has nowhere to go but straight back, verses maybe 10% (wide solid angle scattering out, of which only a small spot crosses the breech to come back). You'll have less return from the ball, the farther you get... so you need to reduce the reflection of anything not the ball.
