Removing Crud From Dust Anno.

I have some ex rental prolite bodies that have some rust stains and dried paint (so dry it's like cement) on them. I used a magic eraser on the outside and that cleaned them up nicely, but there's still quite a bit inside. I've tried toothpaste and rubbing alcohol on them to no avail. Even scraping it off with toothpicks isn't working.

Any recommendations for solvents or other cleaning ideas for me?

If it is truly old crust/crud from old paint and other detritus from being abused as part of a rental fleet, nothing beats plain old "elbow grease". Most of the time that old crust resists most chemical solvents that will not damage the finish as well. When I restored an old rental fleet of 98s I first soaked them in a bath of hot water with TSP overnight (let the water cool off naturally) then went to down with a stiff bristled brush to get off as much as possible then used dental picks, "spudgers" and tooth brushes to get at the hard crust that remained. Then when that was done rinsed them of and put them back in the bath overnight and was able to just use a stiff brush to knock out the majority of the rest. Spot cleaned trouble areas and use greenie to polish off "rust" stains and such. I did not worry about the appearance of the inside just made sure all the crud was gone and nothing interfering with operation after reassemble.

In all honesty, I've seen a ProLite buried in mud for a winter air up and shoot with no issues, so unless it's a personal preference kind of the thing, I'm with Grendel... no need to worry overly much on the inside.

But I'll second the hot water soak as well, that along with some Brasso cleaned up 15 year old paint that was caked onto my Typhoon I bought recently like it was never there.
