    Rental 98 help needed

I acquired 8 rental Tippmann 98's for the kids camps I'm doing this month. I knew that since they were sitting for 10 years that they were going to need some work but I really haven't taken apart 98's before. I work on all kinds of other markers but now that I took the first one apart I'm stuck.

I found out why they would cycle but weren't going forward far enough to really project the paintball. There was paint caked in the front of it between the feedneck and barrel. I cleaned all that out and lubed it. It seems to be moving all the way up and back now smoothly.

But the manual I found online doesn't really show me how the trigger assembly all goes back together. I was aware that there were springs that tend to fly out. I have them all but I don't know where the parts all go. The sear won't go anywhere and seem to fit and move like I expect. Anyone have a link to a great picture of one assembled or video that would help me?

Thank you! That is what I needed to see.

Man, I feel your paint. I hate taking apart 98s due to the spring at the sear and the feedneck spring as well. That's one of the huge advantages of the BT series. Just take the trigger frame off with two bolts and be done with it. Good luck on your project!

That's the worst part about Tippmann's, putting them back together. Tippmannparts.com has all the replacement parts and some upgrades if you need/want them. I just ordered a battery door for an E-grip and a bunch of detents from them.

I have a thread on an older style 98 that shows the spring and sear position. Not the same as the very you are working on. The older style 98s are easier to work on than the Customs.

Just received a Model 98 Kameleon that spent a few days under water. As you can see, it’s a little muddy, but othwise pretty good condition. As a typical Tippmann I could probably put a few drops of oil in it and air it up without a problem, but I’m going to do a thorough breakdown first. 2E7A4FB6-0C6E-423D-9FA8

Looks like these are the ACT tippmanns too. You have to have both of the pins in at the linkage arm for the ACT to work properly, so more small parts that you have to get to line up perfectly on the clam shells.

Honestly I hate the ACT. My brother had one growing up and it caused so many problems I eventually just slapped an older style linkage arm and hammer into it. It shoots money now. You can tell how well the ACT worked by just looking at that photo of the breach you posted....

The biggest thing is you are missing the axel pin for the sear.

One side of the sear interacts with the trigger, that metal plate on the trigger, the other side interacts with the hammer. The sear sits in between those two pins that you have in place but you are missing the pin that goes through the sear itself.

When you have it sitting in there correct, there's a dimple on the bottom of the sear that roughly lines up with that small cup in the body, the spring sits between the two

I do have the pin. I was trying to figure out where it went!

Get a bunch of ball detents

            and leave the guns cocked

and There should be a bumper o ring floating around between the back of the hammer and the back cap.

they’re worse than spyders for regular maintenance but once you get the hang of it they aren’t too bad to maintain, especially if you do it regularly enough that you don’t deal with rusted stuck screws
