What Youtubes Rules on adding Music to your Videos

I'm lazy, and don't want to hunt through youtubes terms and conditions, can somone just sum this up for me?

what does youtube do exactly, if you add a popular song to your video ,and post it up?

Does your channel immediately get a strike?

Does the video immediately get taken down?

Not that monetization is even a consideration, but do they immediately make the video demonetized?

Or could it be monetized, but all the commission goes to the music owner?

-I believe they scan it as it's being uploaded. If you have a copyrighted song, I'm not sure what happens, but it's possible to properly license them, so there's probably some pop-up box you can click to acknowledge it's 'okay'.

I've seen plenty of channels that have 'reactions to' certain songs, and clips of videos and the like, so I doubt it's an "instant" thing.

But any major media outlet has people, as well as fans of the artists, looking for violations, and will report them.

And, if you have a copyrighted bit in there, no you can't monetize it, and for that matter, they may demonetize your entire channel.

Youtube runs algorithms against every uploaded video looking for copyrighted music. This can include your own performances and compositions too. In most cases it just means that you can't monetize your video but the copyright owner can. Appealing copyright strikes is a pain and definitely works in the copyright claimant's favour.

Of course blatant copyright infringement such as serial uploading of whole music videos and movies may get your account deleted.

The easiest solution is to use music from the Youtube music library. There are thousands of copyright free tracks and stings in there and it's certainly as good as any commercial corporate music service.

Just use free license music. Not only does Youtube check for copyright but the Music industry, private organizations, and probably hellspawn too all very aggressively seek out even 3 seconds of protected music. Hell even if you made your own cover of a song you'll probably receive a copyright block. Majority of it is from Bots, either looking to block content or take your video over so they make money but leave the video up in your name.

It's really not worth your time or energy to deal with.

So, if I don't care to make any money off my videos, does that mean I can use any music I want?

I use Tapatalk which does NOT display comments. If you want me to see it, make it a post not a comment.

No that's not how the system works. Any protected music will land any video in head-ache land.

Youtube will simply remove your video from public view until you address the claim. Doesn't matter if you are making money or not.

You can receive permission to use music and there are some rules about that somewhere, but it's extra rules and effort, that doesn't guarantee a Bot won't put a claim on your video anyways.
