    Composite AGD trigger: remvoing slop?

    Hey all,

I really like the single finger composite frame I've got on my 'mag right now, but the trigger has some side to side play I'd like to get rid of. Is there a solution? Am I stuck with it without getting a new frame?

So I found out that a shim kit made for airsoft gearboxes is the perfect kit for shimming triggers. I've done it with every Phantom I've had. They come in assorted packs which are perfect.

I got some flat washers for mine. I'd try to find them in nylon if possible but the ones I found were too thick. Brass or stainless will work I just kinda worry they will wear a hole in the trigger/frame over time. Anything from #6-#10 worked for me. If you buy from a couple different stores you'll get slightly different thicknesses so you can tune. Make sure that your trigger is able to move freely.

I just cut shims from some UHMW sheet or drawer glide tape depending on how thick I need and then use a sharp drill bit by hand to cut a hole for the pivot pin to keep from "wallering out" the hole in the frame. I do this for any CF or Aluminum frame.

In the past I have even cut shims from Fish Paper (similar to card stock) that is used in some gaskets and electrical isolation between parts.

That "drawer glide tape" is essentially PTFE tape with an adhesive side, right? If so, I've got a bunch of that from a different project.

PTFE or UHMW; drawer glide tape does not typically need the higher temperature capability of PTFE so is a cheaper alternative with an UHMW and is more wear resistant (harder) then PTFE so works better in heavy drawers but I have had Glide tape in both at times and they have similar coefficients of friction. I see UHMW more often as the material used in Glide tapes and varies in width/thickness and has an adhesive backing. The adhesive backing is the part I like because I can adhere it to the frame leaving the gliding surface facing the moving trigger.

Remember that the trigger pin itself is made to go in and out from a particular side. I can't remember which side or if it's even consistent.

If you have a decent hobby shop nearby or just check an online hobby shop that carries RC vehicles they should have shims that are used in the gearboxes.
