Black Widow

Hello everyone. So I found a new toy at the shop... The black widow! The price was too good to pass on so I took it with me. She fires up, shoots, and the pump is smooth.
However.... I know very little about this marker.
I only know that it's nelson based. It is the unibody design with the integrated barrel. But I'd like to get a few more details.

• Maintenance
• What to look out for
• How to adjust velocity

Any tips I'd appreciate!

I don't have any personal experience with one. I've owned a Razorback II before.(same manufacturer) WWP - World Wide Paintball released the "Black Widow" in 1990 and according to VintageRex.com. They also produced a removable barrel "Black Widow Deluxe" version in the same year.

I'm not sure if it has a velocity adjustable bolt. But, you can remove the bolt and see if there is. If not, springs are pretty much your best option available. Here is a old Paintball Games Supplies sales ad for your viewing pleasure.....

Maintenance is easy as heck on Nelsons, couple drops of oil through the system every few outings and if the bolt has an o-ring make sure it stays oiled so you don't get consistency issues. Other than cleaning, oil and the occasional replacing of seals there' s not much to 'em!

Things to look out for would be making sure you pump fully back then fully forward. I know it sounds obvious, but if you're going from a Sheridan based platform to a Nelson it can be easy to understroke and double feed or blend paint.

The only other recommendation I have is finagling some sort of anti-rollout mechanism. If the gun is fixed barrel you are limited to spyder detent/fishing line mods or wedgits, but no rollouts are worth the effort.

Opteron-O3 Hey there. I remember jawjacking with you a bit years ago in the Kingman forum on PbN. Nice to see you here.

As Carp said, check for a velocity adjustable bolt. On many Nelsons you'd just put a long flathead or hex rod down the barrel & turn the adjuster, located inside the bolt. Pull the bolt & see if yours has one.

And Jonny is right on- maintenance is minimal & there's not much to them. To get the guts out you'd detach the pump handle & remove the rear trigger frame screw (maybe just take off the frame). The guts should slide right out the back. And they do pump differently than snipers. Even my old Trracer, as smooth as it is, feels way different than my sniper. Get that pump stroke down.

scottieb here is a picture of my current guns.

• Top is Spyder AMG with VS2 internals (glaman5266 probably remembers this from PBN)
  • The AMG is still a work in progress. I'm still on the look out for the old Vertical Regulator adapter, but if I don't find it I'll just settle with a bottomline regulator. Or do what I previously did. I mounted an normal regulator in between the fore grip and ASA. It was a monstrosity, but the extra volume allowed for lower pressure.
