EGO 8 Exhaust valve? Sizing / length issue?

    Hello,

I have a Eclipse Ego 8 that I need to replace the Exhaust Valve in. I ordered a new one (from ANS Gear), and while almost identical, the metal shaft of the new Exhaust valve is longer (about 1/16") than the factory original.

Does anyone know why this might be the case? Was I sent an exhaust valve from a different model or year? (I actually bought 3 as replacements and they are all this longer size so its not a fluke)

I can't imagine this one would be good to use - as the rammer would be hitting it significantly earlier.

I actually have a few ego 8's and all of their exhaust valve's are the same "smaller" size compared to this replacement.

    Thank you for any help

From Jack himself on an old PBN thread:
Ego5-6 had their own Exhaust Valve.
Ego7-10 had their own exhaust valve although we did play around with dimensions very slightly, but they are all interchangeable with each other.
And then Ego11 has its own Exhaust Valve which can be identified by the 2 grooves machined into the delrin right where the valve spring slides over the back of the Exhaust Valve.

Thanks for the info fullofpaint - The new one I got definitely does not have the grooves so we can rule out the ego 11.

Looking online I can't tell what the 05-06 ones looked like or how they were different.

Wonder if Jack considers 1/16" a slight play in dimension? 🤔

For information's sake, I got a reply from Planet Eclipse - They said the longer ones will work but may have a small amount of blowback. You can grind it down to get it the correct size So, thats what I'll do!

        PE:

"I think you've been sent the Ego9/10/11 Exhaust Valve, which as you've noticed, is slightly longer. I think the only issue that you'll have is slightly increased Blow Back as the Valve is getting opened earlier in the Firing Cycle. Unfortunately, given the rarity of this part, I wouldn't know where you would find an Ego8 Exhaust Valve. At the very least, you could grind off the extra 1/16 of length and that would work perfectly."
