    Palmer’s Stabilizer Shelf Life

If I’ve got a stab (male) that was only used a few times, and has otherwise sat in a drawer for idk...6 or 7 years? You think it’s gonna need all the O-rings swapped out before it can be used again? I feel like the answer is probably “yes, dummy,” but I don’t know, maybe these things are fine if the inside’s not been exposed? I’m mostly just hoping I don’t have to because it sounds like a pain in the ass haha. But I accept that I probably do.

    More than likely yes.

The combo of oring material and oil Palmer turn to goo inevitably

I mean, if you are asking, at minimum it seems like it would be a good precaution

My experience with old Palmer stuff is goopy. Lots and lots of super sticky black goop. Quite possibly a source of ass pain, as you suggested.

          Rebuild it.....

Definitely will need a rebuild...easy to do though. I picked a nice condition one from here last year. It came with a rebuild kit too. Goop inside, and the rebuild kit was shot too! Picked up the orings I needed that I didn't have locally for $5 and works as good as it looks now.

Palmers uses gold cup right? I since switched to outlast I forgot who turned me on to it and it definitely makes orings last longer and they don’t turn to mush over time.

Roger that, sometimes you just need to hear others say it.

Unrelated but I was looking on the website for rebuild kits and I’m dying at the “product photo” for their Blazer re-timing jobs 😂

You guys are lucky, it's $88 for Canadians.

I don't know why people still use Gold Cup. Probably because it's both cheap, and has a high profit margin.

I've been a big proponent of KC Troublefree, now Outlast, for years, and you can get similar full-synthetic oils from bicycle shops and gun stores these days.

Gold Cup is crap-grade industrial-air-tool oil. And I wouldn't even use it in my industrial air tools.

I didn't know o-rings could turn to goo until I opened up my palmers stabilizer.

When I bought a Cocker with a Rock on it, I rebuilt that before even airing it up. Good thing, cuz the seals were toast.

I have a Rock on my green 'Cocker, that I installed in probably '95. Last time I gassed that gun up, only about three or four years ago, it still worked great. No leaks, no issues.

Did they use better stuff back then, or is it thanks to using Troublefree? No idea.

It’s definitely due to the oils / grease used. Lots of markers like the 07-08 egos had reg seat issues after a long time due to Vaseline being used as a grease because PE didn’t develop its own Dow33 until it jumped into the spool market with the first GEO. Before that they recommended vaseline believe it or not. It would eat up the glue that held the reg seats in place after long term use. I haven’t used outlast long enough to realize the difference but I suppose things like that could get important especially with non rebuildable solenoids and such.
