So this is an extremely basic question but I truly have no idea because I’ve never owned anything Tippman in 34 years of playing. Is the Tippman model 98 trigger frame solid or have a removable guard like the 98 Custom ? Reason asking is because I’m messing around with this chameleon colored one and it came to me without a guard and a double trigger on it. Thanks.

Stock configuration would be a single finger trigger and a non removable guard.
Edit: go here and check out the manual...VintageRex

It doesn’t look cut though that’s what’s throwing me

NONOBLITUS I'm just going by the manual. They may have added the removable guard in later versions.

Here is my tear down of one of these. Solid trigger guard.
Just received a Model 98 Kameleon that spent a few days under water. As you can see, it’s a little muddy, but othwise pretty good condition. As a typical Tippmann I could probably put a few drops of oil in it and air it up without a problem, but I’m going to do a thorough breakdown first. 2E7A4FB6-0C6E-423D-9FA8

Ecapnation This is something people forget. Back then a M98 was something you upgraded TO.

Maybe I remember things differently but when the '98 first became available it was definitely marketed and used as a rental/starter gun, and if anything was regarded as being a notch or two below Tippmann's own Carbine, being cast and not milled.

The feature I really like about these Model 98s compared to the 98 Customs, is the trigger design with the trigger spring hook.
This design means your trigger weight comes from pulling a spring, as opposed to compressing a small spring the case of Customs
I much prefer the snappier feel of the Model 98 trigger, as the 98 Custom triggers feels really mushy to me !!
Fun fact, the SL68II and Model 98 trigger springs are the same spring.
I used one of these smaller trigger springs to replace the heavier trigger spring on my 68 Carbine , combined with a Lapco double trigger, it makes for a much lighter , faster trigger !Last edited by Meleager7; 01-14-2023, 03:37 PM.'96 RF Mini Cocker, '95 RF Autococker, 68-Automag Classic, Banzai Splash Minimag, Gen-E Matrix, Shoebox Shocker 4x4, Montneel Z-1, Tippmann Pro-Carbine, Tippmann Mini-Lite, Tippmann Model-98, Tippmann 68-Special, Spyder .50 cal Opus/Opus-A , Tippmann .50 Cal Cronus , Gog Enmey .50 cal , Tippmann Vert ASA 68-Carbine, Bob Long Millennium, ICD Grey Green Marble Splash Alleycat Deluxe (runs liquid co2) , Halfblock 2K4 Prostock Autococker , 2K RF Sniper II
