    Worth getting PPS?

So this is gonna be half a question and half seeking opinions and validation from strangers.

I've been looking into getting a pistol-type setup and have been looking into either getting a minimag/micromag or a PPS Stroker(short barrel)

However, seeing the trouble PPS has been having makes me a bit hesitant about getting one of their markers as it might be a bit of a hassle sourcing extra parts in the future, where as automags are way easier to source and repair.

What's yalls opinon? Am I worrying about nothing? And if you had to choose between the two which would you choose :^)

I'm in the infancy of owning a Palmer. Bought it used and had been sitting for years. I like a challenge, so I took it all apart, got it back together but can't stop a leak. I've never even held a Palmer before though, so not like I am very experienced with it. I'm shipping it off to one of our resident Palmer tinkerers to get it up and running as I have thrown in the towel. I would suggest buying one in working condition to avoid the hassle and heartbreak. I do think a mag will treat you much better, but it's not as fancy/cool as a Palmer.

I've had one of those tiny PGP Strokers and I did not care for it. It's cool because it's such a tiny packaged gun but there were just too many little things that bothered me about them. Especially that the trigger is mushy - If you're used to the crisp break on a well tuned cocker or mag this is not that. The in-house frames are definitely better though.

They're also just finicky in general. Everyone is handmade so there can be quirks from gun to gun. I'd say the biggest key if you get one is finding out when/how well it was last serviced and if there are any ongoing quirks the owner has had with it.

I've had issues with every Stroker I've owned. But, you have to remember they are Sheridan pump guns, converted to semi. Don't expect them to run like a purpose designed semi.

Yeah, strokers are a fun kitchy gun, but they are a pain to mess with. To me I get my stroker working, and hit the field. If it acts up, its right into a gear bag and onto something reliable.

Last time I took my stroker out. It was shooting well at 260fps. I was turning the rva up trying to get more out of the shot. I ran the rva screw in too far and caused cycling issues. Backed it off, and switched guns.

Now that being said. I still intend on either trying a semi k frame to see if timing a stroker is easier with sergisons 3 way assembly. OR im going to figure out actuating the quick switch with a lever mechanism to make it a pneumatic assist lever.

Id honestly say get a mag, though I personally have issues with every lvl 10 Ive shot. Get a classic valve lvl 7 and itll just work.

Had the same issues with Level 10s as well.

If you're looking for something reliable and usable a palmer semi shouldn't even be last on that list.

          Go mag.

Wow thanks for the insightful advice everyone!
Glad I could get some reviews from people with actual experience. It's a shame considering it looks so sexy :,)

But looks like I'm leaning even more towards a mag now.

The shame is for all their good looks they take all of the quirks of early generation cockers make them worse then defiantly stay that way for three decades before Craig decided to.do better with the Lance.

And yet a blazer I had them custom build for me literally never worked right and after several trips back I traded it off.

I'm a Sheridan guy, I have a few PPS and love them, but like other already mentioned, don't count on it being easy or reliable ...
when they shoot they are a lot of fun, but I would never hit the field without a backup ...

If you're feeling like modifying them, pull the LPR out and replace it with a jackhammer and call it quits 👍

I absolutely would not get one at this point. They're getting out of paintball and have sold off their machines. Understand that if you get anything PPS now, you're basically on your own, or throwing it out to this group.

Is this true or just a rumor? If Palmers is indeed going out of business then could somebody please post a notice? It was my understanding that they were relocating but that rehoming everything was taking longer than expected. Which is it?

I will say. You can get a leaking one for relatively cheap ( round 200 if you can get the deal) and with some studying, and a pile of common o rings, you can get one working. They are fun for the used market price.

Id say get one used as a fun rec ball shooter, but only after you have a reliable shooter in the stable.

My first experience with PPS was very positive - bought a used Typhoon that was a rock solid shooter - and it basically went downhill from there. 🙂

I've always liked them but I definitely bring backups to the field when I bring my Hurricane, and usually use them.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

I literally know the people that helped him clean out the place.
-I believe the salient part of the question is whether or not he's actually getting out of the sport.

I'd been given to understand (a lot of which is simple wishful thinking) that he was going to regroup, and try to bring Palmer's back, even if it's just a few products and general repairs on old markers.

If he's getting out entirely, that's a different story. As far as us users are concerned, it's no different from any other orphaned marker, like the first and second generation Shockers, Raceguns, E-Blades, Epics, basically anything Brass Eagle, virtually every Nelson-based pump, all Angels, to only a slightly lesser extent Intimidators, etc. etc.

There's nothing on a Palmer's marker that I or most other decent airsmiths can't fix or mod. Certain replacement parts may be a bit tricky to replace, but none of it's impossible.

                      Doc.
