    SL68 Barrel Clamp Repair?

So I was gifted this SL68 by Taylor D which unfortunately has cracked at the barrel clamp. I'm thinking the best potential solution would be welding. Unfortunately I have neither the equipment nor the skills to weld. I've thought about both brazing/soldering and JB weld but I'm not confident that would be strong enough. Any thoughts?

I'd try jb weld first. If I remember right there some problem with welding on this type of cast aluminum. Since it needs to flow into a casting the aluminum has a pretty low melting point or something. Or it will flow away from a welding attempt.

Idk, I could be wrong but I would try jb first

Why even fix it? If you have it all captured and snug on a barrel it should function no?

While I have not done it yet myself supposedly Alumiweld rods work well on cast aluminum. They are a low temp "brazing" rods for aluminum and produce a surprisingly strong join (from what I have seen and read). Supposedly you can use a propane torch but I will use MAPP when I get around to trying on some broken cast aluminum outdoor furniture.

Thanks. I have seen these but I wasn't sure how they'd hold up.

I wonder if there is enough thickness to the body to bore it out a bit and braze or expoxy a threaded sleeve of some sort in there.

Or Phantom or Ion or anything, really. Cocker threads would be awesome, though I'm pretty sure the sleeve would have to extend forward of the body by a good bit. You could then use an insert kit with your SL-68 as well.

This seems like something DocsMachine could turn out on his turret lathe pretty easily. I just wonder if the body has enough thickness to be bored out for something with a sufficient OD for cocker threads and still retain sufficient strength.

I actually messaged Techt about making an ifit adapter for the SL68. They said they'd already thought about it but they aren't the ones who OEM/hold the IP related to the kits. Maybe go bother Techt and they'll put the pressure on their OEM.

It's interesting they have an adapter for the Phantom, which already has multiple barrel boring/anti rollout options. There's thousands of SL68s out there that could become a great starter pump if the barrel options were there.
