I apologize for asking a question i am sure has been answered many times before but my limited Google skills came up blank. If I have a 15 year lifespan tank that is 12 years old and out of hydro will they test it to get the remaining three years out of it or is it trash since the hydro would go beyond its lifespan?

Personally, I would save the money you were going to put into a hydro and move it towards a new tank. Locally they charge around 30 dollars for a hydro.
Imo no sense of getting it hydrotested and having to replace it in another coupled years anyways.
ANS sells just the tanks you can knock the reg off your current tank and put it on a new one
Just my $0.02

Junglepeanut Likely a silly question but is your tank a DOT spec tank or an ISO standard tank. If it is ISO then it is minimum of 15 years if it is DOT then it is done at 15 years.

I believe it's a DOT tank but I am not 100% sure, I don't actually possess the tank. My son recently moved to Knoxville and I am buying him a gear package and having it shipped directly to him. I know the tank is out of hydro but still has some life left and since he is a broke kid I was looking for the cheapest way for him to get back on the field so guessing he will spend the $30 and hydro the tank

One thing I forgot to ask is this a carbon fiber tank or an Aluminum tank? (XX/4500 or 48/3000) If it is an aluminum then you do not have the 15 year lifespan and the 30 dollars would give the full 5 years. If it is carbon fiber and DOT then what Jonnydread dread says is true. You could always go with ANS they are selling some aluminum 48/3000 for 40 dollars but they have 2 years already out of their life(born on 09/21), save money and he gets a new tank when he has the funds.
