Hi All, on one of the Cocker projects I'm working on right now my old chrome Orracle pneumatics have some really fine tool marks on them. I was thinking of hitting them with a cloth polishing wheel on my Dremel, but am concerned about polishing through the anodization or just making it look worse in general. If I do polish them, I'm assuming I just want to use a really gentle polishing compound? I appreciate any thoughts.

Are they Chromed or Anodized?
If they are Chrome plated minor imperfections can be buffed out with something like Flitz or make your own by making a slurry/paste of baking soda and water but I would not recommend using a Dremel as the speed is kind of fast even at low settings and those polishing wheels are not great. I would do by hand but you could use a buffing wheel is you know what you are doing.
If they are anodized then you are not going to polish out tool marks, you would just make it worse by polishing what little dye is there. Anodizing is not plating a material on top of the aluminum it is opening up the aluminum pores and depositing a dye in those pores. Polishing needs to be done prior to anodizing not after.
