    Dye Rotor Motor

Working of fixing up some older Dye Rotors. They had been stored in a garage for a decade with batteries, so things were very crusty. I’ve tried to clean the contacts but no luck so far. Any hints or tips?

Alright, Couple steps and couple things you will need.
First if you have another battery pack (Rotor, Spire, CTRL, and I am sure others) plug it in and see if it powers on and the gear spins.
If it does then you need a new pack or you can try and soak the battery pack in vinegar and clean it with alcohol when it is done.
If it does not you will need to go deeper into it.
There are two parts that can go bad the control board and the actual motor. The control board will be very obviously bad corrosion on the contacts etc the motor will not turn.
If you need any further help let me know and I will see what I can do to help.

Are they doing anything at all?

What makes you think it's the motors?

New batteries and nothing happens when I push the button. Just starting to diagnose. Haven’t worked on these at all.

Confirmed that items the motors or boards. Took them fully apart, subbed in working battery back and both are still dead. Next step would be sub in a working board. Not corrosion for visible damage to any of the motors or boards.

I'll bet you need a new button board. Ans had them cheap when I fixed my rotor up with the same issue. If you look. The battery corrosion leaches down the wire the male pin on my button board came off with that greenish plug on both of yours.

I think the battery pack was cheap, and the board was also cheap. Then they were fired right up. Lemme

battery packs are only 5 bucks.

        The board is 25.

That being said. If you can get the battery harness plug out of the board and the male pins stay intact, you should be able to clean it up with some electrical cleaner. If the pins come off you can attempt to resolver a new plug to the board.

I got my rotor for free so the 30 dollar investment was worth it.

I pulled that wire on both failed rotor and used a good battery pack from my rotor, and they are both still dead.

Did both pins stay in the board plug? Snap a picture of the insides of both.

Also the corrosion could be into the pcb path already. Essentially power isn't getting through that.

On one it was okay, the other one broke but I swapped the good board into the other assembly and still didn’t work

You still have a bad connection through that path. It run2 through the board, and goes multiple directions.

I tested each piece and motors work fine for all Rotors, so have singled it out to be a board issue. Have to see if I can salvage a single one to work
