How to add an image to a “comment”

So….everyone remembers the scene in Jurassic Park where Sam Neill touches the computer and it gets scrambled?

Well, a little know fact about that scene is that I was the inspiration for it….and NO, unfortunately I don’t get royalties

…so I ask all of you “computer savvy” MCB-ers, how the heck do you insert an image into a comment on a post?!?

I think the only way is an image host link and [img] < before and [img/] code < after

Sometimes it will let you copy and paste if it’s feeling it. I can never get it to do it consistently for some reason.

I have seen some successfully do it I'm assuming they are using a host site to do it tho. Like PhotoBucket back in the day before it went full suck.

I usually just upload them directly to MCB so it needs its own post and comment to post a photo.

I'm honestly perplexed to why more of us aren't hosting 99% of our images on paintballcity.org

Then I think you can use the bb code to post in comments.

Paintballcity is great and easy to use.

It’s just easier doing it right through MCB. I imagine the photo links won’t go bad as long as MCB stays up. Look at all the dead Photo bucket /tiny image links on the mold MCB and PB nation.

If they are hosted by MCB they should last as long as MCB.

Lots of good images and info was lost in the corner the market then cash grab and burn data for leverage. There were a ton of “free” image hosting sites that did this. Not saying paintballcity.org will do this but I don’t even know it existed until now.

Paintballcity is owned by mcb from what I gather. So the image lifespan would be equal to directly posting on the forums.

Interesting, did not know that! Might have to figure out how to use paintballcity then

          #7
I host almost all of my images on paintballcity and just use image tags. In a comment you don't have the editor options of a regular post.

          Remove spaces:

          [ IMG ] imagelink.url [ /IMG ]

Already answered but yes you need to upload it or find it online and use the [ img ] [/ img ] tags around it.

Yes, you push the quote button

It's also has the unintended benefit of allowing anybody who uses Tapatalk to view your post

Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

I use Tapatalk which does NOT display comments. If you want me to see it, make it a post not a comment.

Because there's better options than dedicated image hosting sites these days.

That is one of the reasons that I switched to Tapatalk. I can upload an image while making a post. I don't have to go off platform to upload an image and get a code.

Here's what it looks like and I can even insert in line like I just did that all took me less than 10 seconds between taking the photo uploading and inserting

Trbo. But that's you posting a legit post. The OP is trying to put an image in a comment specifically. Tapatalk doesnt support the comment function at all. And the forum won't let you put attachments in comments, so image hosting is the only answer.

also, posting directly to the forum limits us to 5 images per post. If you have a large sales thread you have to gobble up like 10 posts prior to posting any of it, then double back and re edit them all. With hosting sites, you can type the whole post up on word pad, and quickly copy your img links then jump on the forum and copy, paste, and post. With 50 images on the initial post. Though it seems like more leg work, I feel it to be less work in the long run.

I personally dislike tapatalk. It makes the forum feel too remedial. I also dispise. Just about every enhanced mobile layout for any website. I always switch to desktop view and pinch and pull to browse. I have the lack of functionality those condensed formats bring. I am running dark mode, desktop view on the forums as I type this and it's format scratchs my tism nicely.

I know you prefer we use quotes rather than comments so you can see them, BUT that just creates this disjointed, out of order conversation imo. Comments rock for sorting the conversation as it threads out. Someone makes a point. 3 people comment directly to that point that and yet the main conversation can keep flowing below.

Comments can be nice but you're right, the flow and cohesion of the thread suffers. Additionally, a number of comments will be "hidden" if there exists more than say three.

Agree completely with Brick on this. Comment threads have been a massive improvement for keeping conversations more organized on MCB.

For photos, I personally prefer to have my images hosted. While yes, it is a slight increase in workload to get the images up, they are now hosted, and I can drop that image anywhere I like. On or off MCB. I have used Tapatalk in the past, but vastly prefer the browser experience for any forum.

Plus, the mobile site is very good and has only slightly less functionality than the main page.

Yes, my point is comments have their limitations and you don't need them anyway. Quotes serve the same function

I'm not limited to 5. I think it's 9 but if I remember right if I go back in to edit the post I can then upload another batch of 9 into the same post. I'm not certain I have a limit, only that I have to upload them in batches the once in a blue moon that I need more than 9

Yeah. I can see why Tapatalk isn't for everyone. It certainly took some getting used to for me. I don't get to see italicized or bold text either everything just displays as plain text but being able to get notifications from multiple forums in one spot is nice and (while it was connected) I could even run a lot (not all) of admin functions for pbf.

I don't understand this. Unless it's changed or I completely missed something the last time I messed with comments, the forum only displays 3 comments, so if you are off for a weekend and 9 people leave a comment on a post of yours, you can not view 2/3 of that content. That seems way more disjointed since that is now inaccessible over having to scroll. Quotes also allow people to respond to specific sections of a post like I've done here

Quotes create an extremely disjointed conversation as multiple replies to the thread create space between your reply and the reply you are quoting. Quite often the comments are specific to something in the reply, and not to the overall conversation in the thread. Adding another reply to the thread for something that doesn't really pertain to it furthers that space between your reply and the reply you are quoting. Extrapolate that over many pages and it's hard to follow a conversation without reading every post in the thread.

All that being said, forums functioned fine without comments for a long time. Personal preference, but since they have been added to MCB, I find the experience better.

As for the limited number of comments displayed, mine shows an arrow on the right of the comment section that expands the section making all comments visible.

The ability to upload photos directly here has been a great change from the old website. Though it is not intuitive. No "Upload photo" button, but the system works.
In the old days, I would just host on my own server, then later paintballcity... but when those photos were lost during the "big reset", Im happy enough doing it the lazy way
