    Lubricating Reg Seats?

So I've heard that reg seats shouldn't be lubricated only cleaned. Is this true?

Usually I'll take the residual oil from the top of a dropper bottle on my finger and put it on a reg seat just to help prevent any cracking/dry rot in the future. I'm sure this is fine but I've heard the no lubrication of reg seats advice enough that I'd like the know the wherefores and whys of it.

I've heard it before too and it is so over simplified it makes me cringe every time ...

For a true answer, we need a bit more info:
    - What is the reg type/design you're talking about?
    - what is the seat material?
    - what is the seal material?
    - any other moving part? <- depends of design
    - any other sealing parts? <- depends of design
    - what is after the regulator?

From there, we can figure out what lubricant to use ...

But, as a rule of thumb, for paintball, in "normal" operation, a few drop of oil in the ASA from time to time is good enough 👍
(What oil will depend on the seals ...)

I'm just talking generally. I don't put oil in the ASA of guns with components that are greased because I've heard it can wash it off (this is the advice of new AGD).

I usually put a supper light layer on my reg seats, It probably doesn't help but I also dont see it hurting since I put so little on there.

I've rubbed a little dow 33 on my fingers to help a reg seat fit. Clean it off with a q tip after. I try not to though.

I've always heard not to. I assume it's because the two different materials mate together so it's not necessary.

I have always used dow33 on my regs just enough to make them look wet. Never had issues with it and never payed attention to what material I use it on. My markers generally shoot nice and consistent with very little issues. I have used this method for years working on markers and never ran into issues. If a company uses a reg seat that can’t take grease or oil that’s a design flaw in my eyes it’s going to come in contact with both regardless of it should or not.

Only thing I had issues with was my 07/08 Ego reg seats but that was because back then PE didn’t make it’s own grease so they recommended Vaseline and it ate the glue that held the reg seats to the reg pistons. New reg seats are kind of captured now so they don’t pop out and PE grease is just there brand of Dow 33 so it’s not an issue anymore. I would also like to note that marker had a very unusually high shot count. I was practicing 3x a week playing Xball shooting 2-3 cases a practice for many years. Shot that thing right up until my son won me a CSR in a $6 raffle. But I had to replace both my LPR and HPR reg piston seat. One I found in the marker cleaned it up and glued it back in that was like 9+ years ago it’s still good.

No need to lube a reg seat. You really dont want anything in between the seat and the pin, thats where it seals and unseals. most likely when you do lube it, it will blow off the seat, and go through the gun and parts from that point. While people that have done will say it doesnt affect it, they may not notice it, but until the air clears off the pin/seat area, you will get flucuations. Light airtool oil is better than grease in my opinion for the piston.
