Planet Eclipse spare parts turning to mush?

I went to rebuild an Etha and realized lots of rubber parts in it turned into mush. The spare parts have gone to mush even in their baggies.
has anyone else had this issue? Things like detents, bolt tips, bolt bumper, reg seats.

Any chance you're storing them near acetone or other solvents? Ive only seen buna rings melt like that once before but that was a different situation since in my case they were 20 years old.

Sounds like they were exposed to something. I got detents and reg seats from long before the Etha was even a thing that are still like new.

Only the bolt bumper melted for me and maybe the bolt tip. I think they might have had a bad batch of product and changed formulas. There is a upgraded bolt bumper for them.

I don’t know the history on the Etha I bought it used but I got some Detents out of and ego11 spares bag that I’ve owned forever they were the same way. Maybe you’re right about a bad batch. All the orings are fine it’s just the molded rubber parts so weird they came off like black toothpaste.

The detents do not age well... That I can tell you.

I have had that specific issue with a couple of Bob Long o-rings that were very old. The majority of the o-rings in that same batch (that I got) did not deteriorate in the same way, and looked just fine.

Regarding Eclipse detents, I would say it is common knowledge that they all turn to goo so stupidly fast that it is practically pointless to buy an extra pair as a backup, because when you I will need them, they have already turned into the infamous Eclipse goo. Personally, I would very much prefer to buy aftermarket detents if there was an easy source to get hold of them for me.

It's the rubber they're made from. It breaks down into goo after a certain amount of time.

Are they pre-lubricating these and them putting them into the bags?

They must be because I have detents from like 07 that are still good as the day I got em. Inception makes the exact dimension PE detents out of a blue material. I I’m not sure what the difference is. But they look identical in size and shape of PE detents.

Price is either trolling or he's as wrong as humanly possible.WD40 is almost 80% hydrocarbon solvent by weight and silicone oil is compatible with basically every rubber/polymer aside from silicone/fluorosilicone.

Things like reg seats and bolt bumpers are usually made of urethane due to better mechanical properties than buna-n, but it has a ahelf life. There are two types of urethane, ester & ether based. Ester base has better abrasion and chemical resistance and is cheaper, but is more prone to hydrolysis (reacting with mositure) and UV aging.

100% This. WD40 absolutely destroys "o" rings and rubber. I have parker solenoids I've been lubing with silicone for over 20 years that still work great.

Silicone oil most definitely doesn't "need to retain solvents and trap moisture", Siloxanes are hydrophobic and are pretty much only solvents to other Siloxanes.
