    Woodsball / Outlaw setup

    Hi all,
I live in middle-of-nowhere Montana and I want to get a portable woodsball setup for me and my friends.
Would you run 2 scuba tanks in series or fill individually?
I am thinking about getting a handful of nelsons and small 3k tanks.

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Phantoms and 12grams! Cold days might be a problem though 😉

I have a cheap 4 stage hand pump for a 9/3000tank. They don’t take long to fill, I can usually knock mine out in under 10 minutes and get 100ish shots (I think…it’s been a while) Chuck E Ducky knows that number better

9ci like 140ish @ 280 fps on a hot fill and a good bore match.

If I were running Nelsons I’d just use 12gs. You can buy a lot of 12gs for the price of any HPA tank and hauling scuba tanks around is a drag.

I have lucked out and got 1 scuba
Definitely looking at phantoms, either vert asa's or back bottle.
I would run 12s if I wasn't looking to play on BLM land.

Might look at Tippmanns on hpa

You could use 12 grams, just don't throw your 12 grams into the woods. I usually toss them into my dump pouch to carry out with me, at a real field or not.

I would not run both scuba at the same time. Connect the fill station on one and once empty change to the second tank. Try to go for a name brand fill station if you can. I like my Ninja fill station.
Get some 13/3000 tank they are easy to fill and they dont need hydro. I would personally go for a fleet of pump sniper (trilogy or RF sniper). Does Nelson run well on HPA? I always used Nelson on CO2

We have 2 scubas that we fill from our Yong heng compressor. We have usually 10-15 players. Years ago when everyone had tippmanns and such We would burn through those in a couple hours. Now with emeks and pumps we won't even finish off one suba. If we do run out of air or someone wants a 4500 fill we can run the compressor off a small generator in the back of my truck. Ideally everyone would just play stock class with 12 grams, but its hard enough to get players as it is, good luck trying to get everyone to play SC.

KMDPB I have a GXCS4 compressor and have been wanting to fill a SCUBA with it. How would I go about this? I think I need a different valve to swap into the SCUBA tank, but I'm having difficulty locating what I need. Also, ideally I would like to have some sort of valve on the SCUBA that would allow me to fill from my compressor but also top off my HPA tanks in the field after it is full. I am thinking something like this except for a SCUBA tank:

Ninja EZ Fill Valve attaches to a reserve HPA tank offering quick PCP bottle filling. Dual gauges, qd venting EZ PCP Reg.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks so much.

For filling the scuba you just need a fill station with a male nipple instead of a female. So you'll need 2 paintball fill stations. One with a female end for filling your paintball tanks with, and one male for filling your scuba

I am also doing something similar….good luck finding Nelson’s or the like for cheap. Plan on spending $ 80 + on cheap Nelson’s like Pmi traccers or aci hornets. Plan on $150 + on phantoms, grey ghosts, etc. and they are hot and miss weather they like compressed air…. I am also using two scuba tanks and random compressed air tanks. Let me know how it goes. I live in a rural area about an hour away from the big city…

Man do you guys have no experience with scubas? He has a good plan already, no need to buy 12g

Cascade fill the tanks, that's the best way to do it. If you only have 2 scubas I'd say just get 2 separate fill stations, don't worry about building some custom fill rig

Connect to scuba tank 1, fill, disconnect, connect and top off with scuba tank 2.

That way you are getting the bulk of the fill out of tank 1 and only topping off with tank 2. It makes it so you can actually use more of the air you bring with.

I ran a summer camp with 5 scuba tanks, lots of connecting and disconnecting

If you're doing scuba tanks, you bulk fill with the 1st tank, and top off with the second. It helps keep you up over 3k psi for a while. There's also portable compressors, but they take a very long time. If you're running Nelsons, 2 scuba tanks should last everyone all day long.

Hot take: Get a few c02 tanks and get them filled at Dick's. I ran my phantom off of a single small tank for like a year. Much more convenient than lugging around scuba tanks and more user friendly than 12 grams.

They make some decent portable air pumps now.

Or How close is your local co2/welding supply shop? Ever considered bulk co2 the Phantoms would run really well on it. There’s a guy in the BST section selling a bunch of 3.5oz tanks that would be perfect on a Phantom setup.

It really depends on how much you plan on shooting. I have a ton of 12g markers for outlaw with various types of changers and I buy 12g in bulk so it’s a lot cheaper.

                  Guys,

While there are ways to get co2 to work, the easiest way is to use HPA and it looks like he already has most of what he needs anyway

I use a yong heng knockoff with a bunch of $25 tanks from ans and tippmann procarbs for loaners. Typically I have tanks filled prior to playing and top off around lunchtime. I would like to add a scuba and a separator to improve the setup but it worked great for the last year for small outlaw games. I also run my compressor off a generator at the field.

Trbo, he never specifically said he wanted a setup just for winter. Spring is coming fast. Co2 is an extremely viable option for the middle of nowhere for most of the year.

And yes he's set up for HPA, but 12 grams are a nice backup as well, especially for Nelson's. Could be the difference between calling it at noon, or playing until 4.

Agreed it really depends on how rural we are talking. What brand was that portable compressor that was for sale in the BST section? Those had fantastic reviews and cost about as much as a high end marker setup. I get a lil extra cheddar I’m investing in a small compressor with a mini cascade system using 4.5k Scuba bottles.

This is the one I want..
