So I bought a 98custom pro as a backup for a mech only big game and I was messing round recreating a OG 98 that a guy who helped get me into paintball made…. Anyways, the VA that it came with had a leak so I ordered a new one (BT 3 piece vertical adapter) and put on a smooth layer of thread paste and tightened in down and it leaked, so I tightened it about as comfortable as I am with torquing on it and it still leaks. Not sure if one of the o-rings on the pipe are leaking? I inspected them and didn’t see any sign of wear and they looked brand new. Either way it’s very frustrating. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

98 Custom Vertical adapter leaking?

When you say VA do you mean the piece that screws into the valve for a reg? If so I usually only could get it hand tight then used red loctite. Loctite 545 would probably be better.
If both were leaking I would check the power tube for cracks and split the clam shell to check for leaks. Are you sure it's not leaking down the power tube?

The old vertical adapters were one solid piece of pipe but the newer ones were a few pieces with o-rings at the joints to make fitting it into the clamshell easier. The second type sounds like what he has

I definitely would not use red loctite. If anything goes wrong in the valve you are looking at an entire new valve assembly, power tube, AND vert ASA.
Blue loctite is recommended for the 1/8th in NPT fitting going into the valve. Replace the "o" rings on the pipe piece, lube generously and give the loctite a little bit of time to set up. Has never not worked.

I’d guess an O-ring shrunk or something. What I’d do? Leave only the piece with the vert ASA threads inside the clamshell, ditch the 90 degree elbow and the pipe going to the valve. Use the gas thru grip you have as a regular non-gas thru foregrip screwed in just like you have it now, and just run an air line like the stock configuration would have been. Would be effectively the same setup as you have now without the headache

Took her apart and ended up going straight back to 1999:
Teflon tape 4x round the threads that screw into the valve (used a razor blade around the top thread to keep it clean and out of the valve.
3 spins of the white snake on the double O-rings on either side of the pipe. But her back together and she aired without a peep.
just needs a stainless dye boomer1 Photo
