Modern poppet valve markers...

I do not have my finger on the pulse of the paintball industry like I once did, so forgive me if I have missed something obvious...

It appears that the Lv2 is the furthest advanced poppet valve marker using the traditional stacked tube layout. I suppose the Etek5 deserves honorable mention, because it has always been the poor man's Lv1... but isn't everything else using the stacked tube layout over 10 years old? Like, basically different evolutions of the Intimidator?

Since I am a diehard fan of poppet valve markers, I would eventually like to own and use one of the top tier examples at some point in my life.

Would it be worth checking out any of the inline poppet valve markers in my quest to find a top tier example of a poppet valve marker? The VCOM/VIS with the poppet engine, maybe? Would this be worth giving up the stacked tube layout that I am used to?

LV2 is the most recently released stacked tube poppet that I am aware of (assuming we aren't counting the various Spyder clones, Azodins, etc). The Cyborg 6 was in 2014, you could build an Evil M, maybe the J4 Torque?

I doubt you'll like anything more than an LV2 in this category though, unless you want some old school charm. G6R, Angel A1, etc.

The Torque isn't a poppet. It's closer to a spooler with a bolt attached.

These days, with the shot-count efficiency and low recoil of things like the 'Gamma Core' spoolers, the manufacturers, I think, are moving away from the stacked tube/inertia-hammer layout. These days, the only real reason to go that route is the easy-to-clean breech.

For a 'high end' arrangement, I'd like to see somebody couple something like the new Lazarus valve, or that one Nova is working on, with an ultralight 'rammer'- like a Delrin version of the Intimidator ram.

The big problem there, though, is the durability of the ram-to-bolt-pin groove, and trying to beef that up too much gets back to a heavy ram, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Unless you use a Lazarus, a 'rammer' that's more like an Excalibur hammer-only ram, and a separate 'Cocker ram to cycle the bolt. That sort of thing would be fun as a custom build, but way too complex (and expensive) for a production gun.

I would rather check out the Lv2, than go [what I consider backwards] with a clone of something old school. I consider anything simply using the ram [without a cam] is not advancing with the times.

I have always been amazed by the ZAP 600, or whatever it is, ever since messing with one in high school... the original "lever" poppet marker. And I still have one that I fully intend to mechanize, as well as play with.

Would keeping the ram metal but making it real small in diameter solve this problem? Im thinking make it about 1/8th around with a short thicker portion to hold the bolt pin.

On the slim chance this is a good idea feel free to use it.

My top favorite has always been the SL74/ 08 EGO with the LP valve. That being said the LV1 and the new LV2 are definitely the pinnacle of pop-it perfection.

That LV2 is a really nice shooter they have come down a lot lately in price. They drop a lil more I’m going to grab one myself just to have. Especially if I find a clean one in red and black. I don’t play much electro anymore but if I did I would shoot one in a heartbeat!

The problem with your drawing is it can't function that way. The bolt pin needs a channel to go up through so that rear o ring needs to be able to seal while still traveling forward.

The obvious solution is to make the ram longer and move that o ring back further but then that makes everything heavier and you are back to square one.

Has anyone ever used basically a back block? Think running a cocker as an open bolt, but ram instead of hammer

I don’t believe an inline poppet would give you same experience. It’s not really a poppet in the way a stacked tube uses one, it’s more of a seal that comes off of a face to allow the air in as pressure is released on it. It’s really only a poppet in a technical sense of how you describe it but not anything like a hammer and poppet set up.

but yeah, unfortunately, once they got the kinks worked out of spool valves (super prone to leaks, couldn’t handle temp change, horrible efficiency) that we saw in the early ones it just kind of snowballed and everyone went to them. Now most markers are the same and people fight tooth and nail over the smallest difference on soulless designs.

Everything just converged as companies consolidated.

I doubt I'm ever selling my mag. It's so much more crisp and has feedback unlike modern stuff.
