What to do with a 98c...

I accidentally bought a $20 98 Custom on Goodwill. Hasn't even shipped, yet, and I already paid another $20 for a old school RING TRIGGER on eBay.

Only after buying the trigger did I realize I don't like double triggers, ringed or not, and I have absolutely no need/desire for a 98c. So now what?

Without spending a ton of money on mag-fed body kits, low pressure kits, or E-bolts for mech conversions... what are my options?

Bolt action with the right side magazine adapter? 12g pistol? Bolt action, mag-fed, 12g pistol?

I have messed with these things decades ago, built several, I know what the normal BS builds entail... I don't want any of that. Lol.

I already have plans for making a pneumatic Stingray, so I would like to avoid making just another double of that project.
If you need to talk, I will listen. Leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I get it.

You looking for like a project at the extreme end of things or looking to do a little work, maybe play with it a bit then sell it?

      Burn the boats type project.

Just don't want to spend a lot of money on it. Although, I am willing to stay up until 4am with a hacksaw, dremel, and hand files...

Right meow, I am thinking a metal powertube, vertical ASA adapter threaded directly into the valve (even if it requires grinding the clamshells for the VASA to fit), the stupid ring trigger, no trigger guard (using whatever is in the VASA to act as a trigger guard of sorts), and probably some valve work because mad-scientist $#!+ is fun. If I commit to the 12g adapter, or a certain Tippmann expansion chamber, I can possibly give the grip frame a round-butt revolver style grip...

But what about the rest of it?

Is it worth the effort of deleting the blowback function/blocking the blowback gas/finding or making the correct valve stem to convert it to bolt action? Are people satified with their bolt action conversions? I love my pumps, but haven't dabbled much in bolt action paintball. But a duck-style backslide 98c is something I would invest some time and effort into.

Same with the sideways, right side (wrong side?) Sten magazine? Are people happy with mag-feds? Was it worth it? How cool are those little 3D printed hoppers? Lol. Maybe a backwards Sten duck-style backslide 98c?

How cheaply can a spool valve be stuffed in a 98? Asking for a friend...

Don’t bother with metal powertube, it a hit or miss with them and can actually cause issue.

I agree with BenoitOWN. The factory power tube is gonna be the most reliable one. The only other one I'd possibly use is a JCS gold power tube w/an RVA. And I haven't seen one of those for sale in years.

Carefully blocking the valve with jb weld works well.

then I think ya just gotta slot the hammer and viola. its a pump,, or obviously make the bolt action part work by modding the hammer.

For a simple hopper solution my buddy made a pump trench gun replica out of an a5 back in the day. We came up with the idea of preloading the cyclone feed by manually advancing it til a ball was against the bolt, and that worked. The cyclone would keep feeding after the fact, so if you have a cyclone handy and want a quick mod try it out.

He ran his on 12 grams with a 20 round tac cap on the cyclone. Was a pretty cool rig. Can't recall exactly
how many good shots he god from a 12ie, but I recall it being better than expected with the cyclone being driven.

Here's his old YouTube video he posted when he finished the build.

Modifying the valve is as simple as dipping the stock stem in some JB weld, and sanding it down accordingly, or purchasing the 98 pump stem from rap4.

When you said burn the boats that gave me an idea. A while back someone made a project with an sl68 body that had been in a fire, and it looked really cool. Maybe try something similar? I'm not too sure if it will significantly change the tolerances, but the sl68 worked.

Shave that bitch while you are at it

If you want a spool I'd shove a ion inside

Poppet I would use a mini platform (tm7 in specific)

I’m just going to loiter in this thread for ideas for my POP build... thinking about preventing blowback on my BT-4 using JB weld.

Definitely shaving off the letters and sight rail... don't know what I'm going to do about the foregrip, yet. Polish internals, trigger job, the usual BS. It comes with a Whisper barrel, which is partially what prompted me to buy it.

I normally scroll right by anything made by Tippmann, regardless of its price, because I hate clamshells THAT much. But I seen the Whisper barrel and it caused me to pause. Then I saw the $13 price tag, and 15 minutes left on the auction. So I said F!ck it, why not?

I will have to see about tracking down one of those Rap4 valve stems... just to have one. I like to keep my options open. I would love to get my hands on an axe to shove in there, as that is a platform I have wanted to mess with for a while now. And it would be a lot cheaper than a Syx 1.5 (unless it WAS a Syx 1.5 that was being stuffed into the 98).

clean it up, make it work correctly, do some small modifications, and sell it.
