Tank fill for outlaw ball

Hey guys, so my buddy has a bunch of property in Norfolk, Ma and wants to possibly set up an outlaw field. What would you recommend for compressors, scuba tank, and all that jazz? I told him we could just kick it old school with stock class and 12 grams but he wants to see what he can do. The most firepower we're looking at is probably some tippmann's and 3,000 PSI steely tanks. He sent me this Amazon link but looks kind of chintzy

Scuba tanks are easy to use and fill decently. I would suggest spending the extra money for a 5k tank to be sure you can fill everything better. Maybe iven a 5k and 3k to cascade. I bought a used tank and spent much less than a new one. You might need a few to play for a day. If you had CO2 tanks you could rent a full tank and fill pretty easily too. But if you already have 3k tanks, then just do the scuba tanks. Those compressors are slow and need cooling. That's why I try and stay away from them. That one you linked will probably take forever to fill a tank. I can get a decent fill on a scuba tank in a couple of seconds.

I have the GX CS4 compressor and love it - we do rec-ball a fair amount and I tech allot of guns so i constantly use it, and it has not missed a beat in the year + that i've owned it. there is allot of testimony and a good review Here on this forum. it can be run off your car battery for field fills. My toyota Taco even has a 110 plug in the bed that will run it.

its a good option IF:

• you fill a bunch of tanks the day or week before - a 48/3000 tank will take about 25 minutes if totally empty
• your group plays hopper ball and does not go through paint like its going out of style - a 48/3000 should last someone a day of outlaw hopper ball play.
• you invest in extra tanks so its easy to swap a full on out on game day. ANS has a bunch of 3K tanks for 25 bucks right now with 2 years left on hydro.

If you have easy access to a scuba shop and can fill a couple scubas before the game, scubas would be ideal, offering on the spot fill ups. with no power requirement.

after that, compressor system that can quickly fill a 3K tank starts to get pricy

I still use Co2 for allot of my pumper loaners. easy to find a 20 pound dip tube locally, and it fills allot of tanks. someone running an SL-68 on a 7oz can play two days of outlaw ball on one fill!

First off, see what's in your area for options. If there's a scuba shop nearby that fills scubas for $7 then a compressor doesn't make sense, you'll never get the money back on the compressor because it does have consumables. Not to mention you really can't fill tanks while out at the field. 25min per tank just isn't feasible for a whole group so if you use the compressor then you are filling a scuba tank the week before. This is doable but also typically puts a lot of stress on the smaller plug in compressors. More stress, more wear, more wear, more consumables.

Look for a welding shop to see about renting out buying a CO2 tank. Just keep in mind you need one with a siphon tube (sometimes called a "dip tube") to make sure you are getting liquid CO2 out.

I run 3 scuba tanks. 2 are 80cf/3000psi, the last one is, I think 70cf but 3300psi.

The group I filled last time we played outlaw, maybe 10 people we could have easily done 2 events with my tanks. Maybe even a third. And that all cost me maybe $25 with taxes to get those filled up. Now granted, I got these tanks all for really cheap (thanks Super Nova ) and just had to get them hydroed but if you have somewhere to fill scuba tanks, in my opinion it almost never makes sense to then buy a compressor

I find that eBay Mad dog tanks are even better price. Fresh Hydro and still $25 for 48/3k. Scuba tanks all the way if you have a local shop. My local shop requires an annual $15 Visual inspection and $25 3 year hydro. My fills are $8 bucks and there are bundles when I need those services. Cascade fills are the way to go. 1 tank always used to fill large amount, then next 2 tanks to top off.

That's weird, what's the code on your tank? Most scubas are 3AL which should be a 5 year hydro and I'm pretty sure either 2 or 3 year visual. Even still, I'm jealous of the $25 hydro, I wish

I might be misremembering those hydro details. But the annual VIP is a bit frustrating.

We use a yong heng compressor to fill 2 scuba tanks that we take out to the field. Not sure how many people yall will have playing but we found that with a lot of people using tippmanns would burn up our air pretty quick, now with mostly emeks and pumps we can play all day and still have air left over. We usually have 8-15 people

A yong heng knockoff and a bunch of $25 steelies has worked well for me. I fill everything ahead of time. If I run without the separator I can fill a 48/3 in less then 10 minutes. So I can put a lil air in some tanks before a game if people who need fills come early. Also we can do a few “5 minute fills” halfway thru the day. We’re playing hopperball with around 10 people usually and it’s worked so far. I am hoping to add a small scuba to my setup soon.
