EDIT: Had a friend offer me a TM40 for $500. Waiting on photos but he says mint condition. Thoughts?
Slowly dipping my toes back into the sport. All my gear is old and in various states of working. Been buying some new stuff here and there on sale.
Seeing brand new Shocker AMPs and VCON Rippers at $600 which seems decent for both. Used market is around $500 for the AMP so I’d rather buy new unless ya’ll know some deals I don’t. The Etha3 is “entry” level, but it’s PE and not discounted for the value.
I’m a fan of PE and almost always shot poppets in the past. Had an Ego 6 and Ego 8 that I used until life got in the way.
Stacked tube poppets seem mostly dead. Sad, but I get that technology marches forward.
One of my shit coins is doing well and I have turned $20 into about $600 over 4 years of hodling so looking to cash out and get a new gun.
I have three kids and full time job with consulting I do on the side so time is short. As a teen I could always find time to tech gear and play around with different bolt systems and efficiency stuff, but now I just want something stress free that I run and gun with. Maybe play a local tournament if I lose a few pounds.
I was never a Bob Long fan and still find the milling on the Ripper to be obnoxious, but like that it’s a (in-line) poppet. I owned everything from matrix’s and shockers and cockers and various pumps and mechs and auto mags in the past, but always went back to the Egos for anything serious play related (minus pump tournaments).
The Shocker is interesting. I always hated the company, but the SFT was for some reason my favorite spool gun “back in the day.” I think the understated styling and ergonomics just worked for me even if the Matrix had an objectively better shot. I also liked the sound they made (no idea why). I don’t mind the styling on the AMP for the same reason. It’s simple, clean, and looks good (to me). The small front grip is whatever… I always was a “thumb over barrel/body” guy anyways.
The Etha3 I hear great things about and should keep up with everything I want to do with it. It’s the only one I’ve actually held and I don’t mind the ergonomics at all. Not a huge fan of the plastic body as it doesn’t give the premium feel, but I also don’t have any concerns regarding durability. It’s PE and PE always treated me well in the 00’s… People seem to have that sentiment today which is good. It’s also $50 cheaper (yay).
Looking for feedback on considerations I may be missing. Kind of leaning towards the shocker right now, but definitely don’t have my mind made up.
Thanks all!
