Talk me out of the T4E HDX

So I really really dig the milsim aesthetic, and I do enjoy playing with a pump sometimes. I understand the velocity is not adjustable on the hdx, but it seems like it should be close enough most of the time?
My main concern is just ease and speed of reloading. Since it looks like the main reloading method is dropping balls into the breech/magazine tube, is there a speed loader for them or any quick way to top off, or can it only be loaded one-by-one?

Also, how hard is the gun to tech?

Is there a comparable gun (that won't bankrupt me) that I should be looking at instead?

Phantom with an apocalypse spring feed is gunna be more fun and better efficiency and better resale. and you can mod it later on for open or stock class.
Lighter, bored barrels, endless anno options.
Cheap if youre patient and buy used.
can just throw a stock/airsoft body on it to look more like a shotgun if that matters so much to u.
is there a big milsim scene at your local field or a scenario youre planning to use this at?
i just think its not gunna look so cool when youre getting outgunned by everyone else with more capacity and better range and ROF.
Even if youve got a good group of dudes shooting "conventional" pump guns (phantoms and snipers) at your field, it will still be a huge disadvantage.

fooling around in the backyard? gunna go in with a handful of other dudes so you can play 'T4E HDX- only' games? go for it
otherwise, id spring for function over form

Shameless plug, but I have a few feed waiting final assembly if someone needs one 😁

The straight stock is going to be miserable to aim with while wearing a mask. No bore sizing. No velocity adjustment is kind of a deal breaker. Changing the dual 12 grams requires you to remove the stock and keep track of a little ring, so mid-firefight changes are going to be a challenge. I doubt you'll find a specific speed loader for this. The little feed gate plug/loading tool is just asking to get lost/broken (and further complicating on the field reloads). I haven't seen the disassembly process, but I imagine cleaning a broken ball from the loading tube is a pain.

Too many compromises for an aesthetic, in my humble opinion. That said there are not many options in this form factor.

so, im doing some more research on this thing. looks like all the videos are from 2+ years ago with nothing more recent.
im guessing there was a small period of hype that quickly died down when folks realized they suck and thats why you dont see any of these out anywhere or newer gameplay/review vids.
the way the reload process works on these, i cant picture a practical, convenient way to "speed feed".
they wanted it "so realistic", you have to push a ball in and then thumb it down like a shell.
Breaking paint inside one of these seems like an absolute nightmare.
And maybe worst of all is the build quality seems super inconsistent. None of the fps or efficiency numbers seem attractive and theres folks claiming they got 240fps out of the box but a lot saying 210.
if you absolutely NEED to have a paintball shotgun,
      JJohnson is selling his dsg.

Parting with my 3rd Gen DSG #220, has a pistol gripped stock along with the stock grip and a .681 PumpPB.com barrel. It does currently dump the 12ie down the barrel. Took it apart and it needs a new cup seal, CCM valve assemblies are currently out of stock or I would have replaced it. $700 shipped in the US

a little more $$$, but you get what you pay for

Like all T4E products, it does not have any easy velocity adjustment system. That said, the world of tinkerers have found solutions to both raise and lower velocity of the various platforms including this one. Another genius has created a pull string feature to allow speed loading during game play. Additionally, there is an 88 gram adaptor to replace the 12 gram system. Disassembly and maintenance can be a little time consuming. The more you work on these platforms, the easier it gets. The only other options for the same look and feel are the Dukie DSG and the Prime Guard/ Rap 4 SG68. Those have bottom feed gate just like the real shotgun. Prices, Parts and Maintenance are another issue. Getting replacement parts for any of these can be challenging. The HDX being a new product will have a better shot at finding replacement parts through a dealer. I have a couple of these and they are fun. I have not done the speed load mod yet on any of them. I have tweaked the velocity to be closer to field speed. Since it is CO2 and subject to temperature, I do not set at 285 fps. At that setting, there is no room for temp influence.

sorry to be so brutal. but you did title the thread "Talk me out of it" lol.
most of the time, good advice is gunna be what you dont wanna hear.
theres a special sort of fun to be had making the janky stuff work. its well worth the challenge when you pop some speedball dude with a pgp or the amazing time we all had when COB supplied us with enough of them for a 20 v 20 splatmasters only game.
Ive even been tagged by a buddy shooting a brass eagle samurai with a ductaped on tube feed!
i learn all my lessons the hard way, so i say, if your hearts set on this thing, be patient and post up some WTB threads here and on FB. theres most likely someone out there who bought one and doesnt want it. that way you wont overpay.
Just dont go into it thinking youll be competitive in any way fielding something like this. Youll be entirely reliant on luck and sneaking around. and youll probly be walking off constantly if youre having issues with the reloading/12g change on these.
          but good luck with it!
my recommendation for scratching the "shotgun itch" is still a spring feed phantom. but i would stay away from the phantomonline/extreme velocity Pheed.
get an Apoc kit or similar

I either didn't realize or forgot about the Phantom springfeeds.
The HDX looks super cool but as already mentioned, there's too many little annoying issues with it to be practical in any way.

Get it! And then hang it on the wall and go get something more practical to actually play with

I like the look and feel of Umarex stuff but they aren't really for paintball. I bought some of their stuff and have sold it all after realizing how impractical they are for PB use. Like other's have said, if you want a wall hanger that looks cool or to use in the back yard, go for it. If you really want to use it, don't waste the money.
