    Old tipmann 98 velocity issues/blues

I have modded several tippmann 98's and usually have no issues. The last 3 Covid 19 projects don't meet the 290 fps.

I used old tipmanns so I assume its hammer springs, o-rings, or perhaps the velocity screws.

The best was 175, 250 and 125 FPS.

Any tips? It's quite frustrating constantly breaking down these guns.

I have 3 used tipmanns in the mail and plan on getting them working and the stripping the parts into my projects.

Try touch all the bases in one pass, so you don't have to deal with those stupid clamshells more than once...

Make sure the velocity adjustment screw is backed out to its most open position.

O-rings, pretty obvious, but really make sure the hammer has a fresh one that fits properly. The bolt O-ring is less important, but if you have an excessive amount of blowby, it could affect efficiency/velocity (some).

Polish the internals. Might as well since you already have it apart.

Springs. Get a spring kit. Most only include hammer springs, but TechT makes (or made) a lighter valve spring. You have options. Springs are my preferred method to get things shooting to velocity.

Are you running these with a regulator?

There are some more things that can be done, like opening up the air passages along the sides of the valve body, but that's more of a homebrew low pressure mod. It shouldn't be necessary just to reach a respectable velocity.
If you need to talk, I will listen. Leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I get it.

How are the orings on the front bolts? I find typically with that big of a drop in a tippy it’s a grossly swollen front bolt oring. Take them off completely and see how you do.

I don't think the rings are swollen. The original right hand feed has been JB welded - possibility of jams ...........
