    The anti gun whore thread

So who else has owned a particular marker 10 plus years? Show em off, tell the story.

Summer of 2003 I start getting into paintball. I am buying pb2x and every other magazine I can. In these magazines I take interest in the hype ads for Smart Parts new Shocker and Nerve. The Nerve really caught my eye, something about the lines.

Being 12 with no real paintball scene nearby, I relegate these fancy and expensive markers to fantasy. Instead I get a tippmann custom pro and go crazy decking it out.

My friends interest in playing begins to dwindle around 2005. We went from a group of 10-12 every weekend to 4-5 once or twice a month. Meanwhile I'm still buying magazines and have found PBN and Spec Ops Forums. I don't wanna give up playing.

Summer of 2006 I reach out to a local scenario "team" and manage to jump on with them for a game a few hours drive away. There I am exposed to those fancy high end guns.

While perusing the BST section on one of the forums, I come across a guy selling a nerve. I throw a long shot offer of a straight trade for my tippmann, which to my surprise the seller went for.

The nerve was bone stock other then the hyper 2 reg. I couldn't stand the factory drop and non venting on/off, so that got swapped for the ndz rail and CP on/off.

I eventually found someone to swap some of my red parts for black (frame, backcap, feedback, lpr). I believe this frame came with the Factory Team board with the nxl ramping setting. Something not rare but uncommon to find, so that was cool.

I eventually found a great deal on the tonton frame and somewhere around then I got the NDZ trigger. Prior I had a delrin trigger with the same profile. At some point the team board died, at which time I replaced it with a virtue board.

Those years from 06 to 10, I ran a ton of paint through the thing. Since 10 I've used it when I did get out. Hoping to add a few more cases to the count this summer.

Anyone got some history with a particular marker?

I've got two specific markers that I've had for a 10+ years. The first one is my FBM Teardrop Cocker. Bought on eBay for cheap in the early 2000s (want to say 2002?). Only change I've made is that put an ID 3-way on it this year. So had it for close to 20 years now. It was even stolen at one point but found its way back to me.

The second closest is my Karni pump. It was a build done after my first Karni pump had been stolen (along with the Teardrop Cocker) in about 2009. Had insurance coverage and the Karni was a replacement build. Only change to he Karni was I replaced the on/off earlier this year. This is my most used marker.

If I am able, I will come play some paintball with you one day. Tired of photos of guns on the internet.

Sniper II. Assembled from spare parts sometime around 1994ish but is all a blur. Reg, ASA and drop were replaced somewhere along the way, otherwise it is pretty much how she was. Still my main shooter

I have a few that come to mind that i'd share.

I have owned this one since 2007. pretty sure i traded a pump mag and 400 for it. They were still pretty new at the time and only a handful had been sold at the field which was a ccm dealer. I had to have one. I still have the origjnal frame, reg and a few other parts kicking around too.

I have owned this one for almost as long.

I just passed 10 years on this one too. It has been my go to gun since i bought it too.

I find it interesting that both of these CCMs have Sidewinders on them vs. the original CCM reg.

Thomas, id have to check i want to say in the 200-300's. I know at some point i swapped the body as it was dropped and had a ding on the back that drove me nuts. lol.

personally hate the ccm reg. Hate the feel, fitting location and the tiny oring for the reg seat.

Out of the 30 something guns I have. All but 5 I have had for over 10 years. Most of the guns were bought pre 2010. When I had more hobby money and prices were cheap.

Notalble would be the first paintball gun I bought. It is a Bob Long Millenium Spyder I bought in 1999.

Always thought the ccm pumps were amongst the sharpest looking cocker based pumps.

I bought this one in 2000, from the original owner. Sold new in March 1997. It is still my go to gun.

My first paintgun was a Brass Eagle Blade '02. I no longer have it. But I still have my second paintgun- a JT Excellerator 6.0. Got it for my birthday in 2003. Still have it, more or less in this same configuration. I used it for a while, but bought an A-5 soon after they were released. Switched back & forth with those two for several years & it served me well. I tossed a weak Spyder spring in it and it became very efficient- well over 1000 shots off a 20oz co2 bottle. I was always proud of that. Currently not working, but hopefully it just needs a bunch of seals replaced.

I never owned an excellerator, but I did chrono one at the store once. I remember it shot way smoother than any other blowback I'd ever shot.

WGP Sniper II bought sometime summer 2001 as a Sniper II used it for 1 scenario then had it stripped and anodized along with ANS Quickfire, Kapp drop forward (no longer installed) and Freak Barrel kit. This was my go to up until I bought my Pyre in 2008 then that took primacy and Sniper II became a backup (still travels with me and gets broken out occasionally):

My Pyre #008 first RF Pyre in the publics hand had this since new in 2008 and was used this last Saturday almost all day long: This configuration has not changed since this picture other then different tank cover and 14" dual vented barrel. My teammates hated the pictured 12 inch non-bored barrel as being offensively loud and painful to be near in a building. The Whaler still travels with me but usually I just throw a 9VDC Revy on it. For Rec play hopper ball is all I need.

The oldest in the herd is my LAPCO Grey Ghost I believe I am the 2nd owner but I have owned it since 1996. She does not get much play anymore due to paint size but there are plans in the work to remedy that situation in the works. This is the last of my Ghosts as I actually prefer Grey Spirits because of their bore drop configuration over the Ghost's breach drop. None of my LAPCOs are currently getting the love they deserve

Thanks, I have always had a weakness for old school LAPCOs and Wintec markers. It has been a revolving door of Ghosts and Spirits in my collection but I think I have settled on this Ghost, another in the wings and my two removable barrel Spirits plus the "Franken Spirit" which is a parts bin build of my favorite LAPCO parts modified and put together.

I have several markers I’ve had since the’90s, but the oldest one I have from back then is actually my second since I sold my original Spyder TL+ to afford it. This would be my Bob Long Signature Series Autococker. The gun has been reconfigured several times over the years, including one period where it was briefly converted to pump. I completed a restoration / modification project on it back in 2020 and it shoots better than ever. I held onto this marker even during the time I took a break from paintball for nearly ten years. I doubt I’ll ever sell it either. This thing has been my baby ever since.

                  [cracks knuckles]

                  Children these days....

First, sorry for the poor pics. Some of these are 25 years old, and were uploaded back in the days of 480x600 monitors.

That said, on with the pics. This one's my Green Cannon, a 4-digit 'Cocker I got, well used, around '92.

Lots of little details, been meaning to do a write-up on it. That gun has THE first nickel-plated Quickswitch. The QS and nickeling- as a separate service- cost me something like $65... back in '95. (Today's equivalent of $125.) TASO humpback, Bob Long RAT valve, Paintball Mania FW71 HPA system...

I had it milled and annoed into the condition shown- which it's still in today, by late '95 or so, and make the oak stand for it (which I also still have) in '96.

Then we have the P-68-DS (or Doc Special )

That was originally a P-68-SC that a prior owner had tried to modify the feed tube, and badly damaged. I bought it, unsoldered the remains of the tube, fitted the ribbed sight rail (I'd made the first one on my Stroker several years before) and the right-feed direct feed, along with an F1 Illustrator style wire detent. I built it and had Palmer's nickel it right before I launched Doc's Machine (circa '98) and to this day, it has still never been on the field. (For that matter, it hasn't been gassed up in some 20 years. )

Moving up a few years, there's my first-gen Fastback:

Built off a 'salvage' body I got from LAPCO, I gave it a custom halfblock- this was back when everybody was roughly sawing off the back half of bodies, to make "Turtle" Cockers and other homebrew halfblocks. Mine was more of a "full halfblock", like the Raceguns. The bolt pin only retains the bolt, and there's a cocking pin mounted to the block.

I made the backblock, "snatch" grip, the IVG plug (which is solid and smooth, no adjuster) the bolt, the hammer, the ASA (note the stainless tube for the solenoid wires) the front block, the front block bolt (the first of my Flattops) and, not shown in this early pic, a custom drop for the flatline, and a rigid stainless line for the reg. Still have it, loaned it out for the local MSTS tourney in '04.

And, one more: My first-gen Freestyle:

Not long after this, I swapped the stock LPR with one of the last STDs, and of course had swapped the factory FS reg for a Stab. The trigger is custom (hated the swiss-cheese stocker) and the grips are cherry-stained wood. The Evil Pipe with a red top matches the gun nicely, and I still even have the now-long-dead... is that a Dynaflow tank? Heck, it's been years since I had that out.

Last I shot it, it still worked great, though being a first-gen, it didn't have the shutoff valve, and so was a major gas hog. I'd bet it needs O-rings today.

I got this Automag for my 13th birthday, in 1995. The first time I played paintball was a year earlier for my birthday. I "upgraded" from a Tippmann pro carbine. The beat-up beautiful green SP wood grips are hard to look at now.

Bought this used and all stock on PBN for $65 back in 08. Now has about 10x that value in upgrades. It was the first gun I ever bought myself, and will be the last gun I ever sell. The day I can no longer use this to play paintball is the day I will stop playing paintball. No other gun feels more natural in my hands. It really is a "point, shoot, get kills" kind of gun.
