Canadian Tank Laws?

I think the 61ci tank law is pretty well known, but I recently had the owner of a local shop tell me that all aluminum tanks marked 3ALM have an unlimited lifespan. Is this true? I don't think too many fields would go for this since the 61ci law can be a hard sell. Anybody have any experience with this?

The only I can find (in a quick 10 minute trip on Google) is that in January 2020 the DOT and TC reached an agreement that TC-3AL tanks were allowed to be sold in Canada and no longer required the 3ALM marking.

I think you'd have to ask someone who's in the tank subset of the industry to really get to the bottom of this.

Considering the 60ci law is a contentious issue, I doubt too many fields would allow them regardless.

You were kind enough to answer my question, an I meant to respond a few days ago and forgot. I was going through this section to my ad in the Canada BST, and remembered.

This was partially an addendum, partially a conclusion I came to because of the lack of a conclusion from others. If the Canadians of the MCB hive mind can't answer this question, that's the only subset of people who might.

I recently emailed Transport Canada about this and they said:

"There is no specified service life for cylinders manufactured to the TC-3ALM specification. The cylinders can remain in service as long as they remain safe (i.e, pass requalification, pass prefill inspection, etc.). The requirements for these cylinders are specified in standards CSA B339 and CSA B340."

The 1L/61ci rule is covered under CSA B339. This leads me to think that there is no LEGAL issue using a TC-3ALM tank that is 15+ years old without hydro, though I haven't read the full text of the standards myself. I'd say that you should probably get these tanks rehydro'd every 5 years after 15 years.
