10 Man Mech Hyperball at Central Alabama Paintball Park 10/23/22

After the success of the 7-man event in July, CAPP has announced a 10-man version for October. The July event was an absolute blast despite being very, very hot.

They've more than doubled the registration fee from the last event, to $250.00, though that does come with a move to an all-paint-included scheme. Not really sure how that will work, exactly. For the last event they had a specially-ordered pallet of Empire Evil that shot really well, along with some Empire Premium and HK level 3 available. Registration opens on Friday, August 19th, and closes on Monday, October 3rd. The last event sold out within a few days. Here's the field's site: Central Alabama Paintball Park

CAPP is located in Calera, Alabama, a short distance south of Birmingham. The field is on US 31, which runs parallel to I-65, and sits roughly a mile or so east of the Shelby County Airport.

This event is capped at 60 players. I've asked if that means 6 teams of 10, or 5 teams with 12 man rosters (the 7-man event had 9 man rosters) but haven't gotten an answer yet. [Edit: it is the latter, 5 teams with 12 person rosters] Number of games in the prelim round and game time limits haven't been announced yet. [9 minute games, most likely double round robin format] Like the previous event, this is a draft tournament in which players register individually and are assigned to teams. I presume the selection will be like it was before, where the designated team captains draft a certain number of players and then the undrafted ones are randomly sorted onto teams. That appeared to result in a fairly balanced mix of skill level on each team. This is a pretty casual, local event not affiliated with any league or tournament series. No APPA/PBLI numbers required to register.

I'm not affiliated with the field and do not know anything more than what has been publicly announced. I'll more likely than not sign up for this event. [Yes, I signed up.]

Think it’d be worth the drive from Nashville? About 230 miles.

Obviously I think so, since I'll be coming from just outside Mobile, at 218 miles.

Worth is of course ultimately subjective, but I would also note that the July event drew players from even further afield. The great appeal for me is the draft format. Not having to be on a team gives casual recballers such as myself a rare opportunity to pretend to be a competitive player for a day.
