    FlowTech Designs RMac

    Working on a tech video plus review. Transcript will be posted here as well. For now, just my initial thoughts from the "News" thread:
    • Holy crap is this thing light!
    • Nice case, holds the 2 piece barrel, full spares kit (including tools and an extra detent pipe), and marker
    • Very little in the way of a manual, more of a "quick start" guide than anything
    • I hate the on/off. It's extremely hard to push on with a tank installed, and it's really easy to accidentally push it off
    • Bolt train/engine/whatever we're calling it was nicely lubed. It also comes out easily
    • Feedneck is meh. No lever, just a big thumbscrew. Appears to be empire spec, and if that's the case I'll be replacing it.
    • Trigger is extremely light. If it was any bigger I could walk it like an electro
    • Safety is interesting, it doesn't block the trigger but instead appears to hold the spool valve back

    Is it fair that assume that the bolt is the same a a Machine Vapor? I haven't seen the bolt broken down yet but did notice it uses the same eye pipe setup as the Vapor. If this is the case I'm wondering if Spurlock is behind this as well?

      Extremely similar bolt to the Vapor, and yes, Spurlock is involved. He owns the patent for the trigger pneumatics: https://patents.google.com/patent/US...2c187%2c489+B1

      Okay, a few weeks in with some playtime and I've got my thoughts. This is all based on it being a $750 MSRP marker and the expectations that come with that.

      Pros:
      - Super light system overall
      - Trigger pull is very nice. Light pull, crisp break, very fast
      - Seems to be pretty soft on paint, very little breakage
      - Easy to maintain overall
      - Appears to be pretty consistent, and I expect that to get better after break-in
      - I like the safety system, easy to flip on
      - Feedneck is empire spec
      - NXL legal trigger guard size

      Cons:
      - No lever on the feedneck
      - Frame unnecessarily restricts the top part of the trigger, could have a lot more space
      - On/Off is relatively hard to engage, and easy to accidentally disengage, I've already done it twice mid-game
      - No manual, website does have one to download, just a "quick start" sheet
      - Barrel is meh at best, high quality, but very large bore, and no actual marking on it. I don't use it tbh
      - Lots of metric o-rings in the trigger valve assembly
      - Dubious long-term prospects for the company, very little marketing presence, very little communication
      - Non-standard grip pattern

      General observations:
      - I like the "detent" pipe system. One less thing to unscrew or clean, and can still dry fire without the barrel on
      - Nice case and spares kit, no lube included though

      Overall, I like the marker. It plays well, is generally reliable (so far) and decently efficient. However, it's not worth the $750 (I see they have lowered the price somewhat to $725) price tag as it stands. For a similar price, you can get brand new mechanical versions of the following:

      Shocker Amp
      MacDev XDR
      PE M170R

      And that's just "brand new". All 3 have a longer company history and seemingly much better support. Used you can get electric/mech combos for all of those and more. I appreciate the attempt to put something out there that's different, even if it's a mechanical version of something "old". I sincerely believe they did themselves a disservice with their lack of marketing, lack of social media engagement, and lack of follow through on promised "technical videos". Unfortunately I don't see them selling very many and quickly going under, which means long-term support is probably non-existent.

      I enjoy mine and will likely use it for a long time to come.
